Corey Crawford appreciation thread

I had my doubts about his viability as our #1 after failing for years to really establish himself from pack of middle of road goalies in AHL

But the guy has been great for Hawks especially replacing cup winner/fan fav Niemi

Infact behind much inferior team he has outplayed Niemi 2009/10 season

Niemi in 39 games last year

26-7-4 2.25 GAA / .912 Sv Pct 7 SO

Crawford in 39 games this year

23-12-3 2.13 GAA / .923 Sv Pct 3 SO

Very happy with Crawford and hope he continues to excell and grow as goalie

Always saw potential in the guy.

Wondered why they signed Turco with him in the wings.

Good to see him excelling.

Well you never want to go into season with an untested rookie and what would have been Hannu Toivonen as backup

He's making up for losing Niemi, that is for sure. Like to see a home grown guy succeed for a number of years at a decent cap hit. He signs at least a two year deal and I'm buying a jersey.

Crawford has been outstanding and I hope this thread doesn't jinx him. It has happened way too many times on hfboards.

You guys know I've been one of his biggest fans. The guy has been waiting for this opportunity for years and plays every game like it's a tryout for the NHL. His focus and consistency is virtually unmatched.

The great thing about Crawford is that he is so technically sound. In my opinion there's technical goalies and athletic goalies. The latter being the Turco type who depend on their body rather than technicality to stop shots. Corey's looks huge in that net and he seems to instill a lot of confidence in the whole team.

He still scares the **** out of me at times (such as losing the puck in the crease), and I was really suprised to see he has some of the best numbers in the league right now. All will develop in due time.

Overall he's been a great surprise. But he still scares me. Like the rest of the team, he seems to get worse as the game goes on. I just don't feel like we can depend on him late in the game with a slight lead.

I'm glad he's scaring fans, because I hope it's scaring team GM's even more from giving a big contract that the Hawks simply can't match.

Crawford still has his moments of "wtf?", but he's been very solid on a consistent basis for the Hawks.

Still miss Niemi though.

He's worked out well. I still miss Niemi at times, but with Niemis recent contract of 3.8 million per, ill take Crawford any day.
