is Bryan Murray in on signing undrafted Da Costa ?

Like the tittle says...

Is Bryan Murray in on signing free agent Da Costa?

I know the Flyers are... They also just signed, Jason Akeson (RW-Kitchener) and Tyler Brown (C-Plymouth).

I hope Murray was in on RW Akeson, he's destroying the OHL, 103 points... playing along side Landeskog.

Who knows? I would have thought if Murray was in on signing Akeson that it would have gotten done -- I'm sure he'd have rather played in his hometown.

A lot of GMs are supposed to be in the hunt for Da Costa. But i think we are a very attractive team to those young free agents as we are in the rebuilding mode. Murray has a history to pursue college players. I definitely see him signing a least one young free agent. If its not Da Costa i am sure Murray will find another talent. You just can´t lose a lot if the players doesn´t pan out so i am fine with every young player coming to us for nothing.

Da Costa implied in recent interviews that he wanted to return to college next year. I have not seen anything on what the Sens scouts think about Da Costa. They could be interested or they may have no interested in using up one of their 50 contract slots on him. They may have other college prospects on their radar, Who knows.

Its possible to sign Da Costa and sent him back to college or am i wrong?

How about Paul Thompson? He was a team mate of Butler at the University of New Hampshire and seems to follow his path.

Once a college player signs a pro contract they cannot return to college hockey. And as was said above, due to Da Costa's serious injury he expressed intent on staying at college for next yr. I imagine to receive a better contract.

Any team drafting Landeskog will be in on Da Costa. Since he is on our board, I would say yes. I wonder if Da Costa waits to see where Landekog is drafted before deciding.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he could get a better contract. Undrafted free agents are still subject to the ELC rules, meaning the term and dollar amount are limited. Apparently, teams were trying to sign Da Costa last year, too, but he was turning them down back then. Apparently, he really wants to win a championship at his college.

Yes, but if his injury is serious enough to cast doubt on his future, a team may only offer the minimum while another team may offer the maximum if they don't have those concerns. If all teams want to offer the maximum, they can also include various rookie bonuses to sweeten the offer but there is no guarantees that they will earn those bonuses. Then there is the last carrot to dangle, they "may" get an "opportunity" to get into an NHL game or two this year. But they can't promise them that they "will" get to play a game or two if they sign with them, that's against the rules.

If he wants to return to college and won't sign a deal, you could always draft him to secure his rights.

Nice write up by Julie Robenhymer on the following top College prospects available:

Stephane Da Costa - Merrimack - Sophomore
Paul Thompson - New Hampshire - Senior
Andy Miele - Miami - Senior

Also gives the following:
Quote:
Some other college free agents to note are Cal Heeter (G, Ohio State), Pat Cannone (F, Miami), Carter Camper (F, Miami) and Justin Fontaine (F, MN-Duluth). I'll give you more information on them next week and tomorrow, I'll have a feature on another free agent, Brian Gibbons from BC....

Remember Burke pounding his chest over this one? Pretty sure nobody offered bonuses in the same ballpark...

Uh...NO. Da Costa is not draft eligible. Born Nov 7 1989 = over 21 years of age.

CBA Article 8.4 (a) (iv): a Player age 21 or older who (A) has not been selected in a previous Entry Draft and (B) played hockey for at least one season in North America when he was age 18, 19, or 20 and shall be eligible to enter the League as an Unrestricted Free Agent pursuant to Article 10.1 (d)

Ah gotchya. I was confused.

DaCosta would be a nice pickup. From what I've seen, the guy can really shoot the puck.

Harry Zolnierczyk has gotten a lot of hype as well. Seems to be NHL ready.

Is this a tidbit or are you just excited about the player? Big body, a leader, good numbers. Seems like a logical target. Does he play wing?

Thinking of Akeson who I was really hoping Murray was in on. Meanwhile Da Costa would be nice as well as you indicate. From what I read he's leaning to school again.

With Bridgman at the helm, there's no doubt we'll be gunning for him. And with the advances in equipment, he should be able to put up some serious numbers. He could also solve our coaching issue, too.
