I don't get it
Also, do these refs seem to suck more and more each year with missing some real obvious calls or it is it me? Is there a new crop of rookie refs - is that why?

They want to get the pathetic teams out of the way quicker and save the later games for the teams hat actually matter.

Same refs, just the same level of sucking--in fact they never were really good.

Scheduling for other sports and events, but that changes every year so it doesn't matter

Usually its because the circus comes into town in the early spring, but this year, they wont be coming to MSG (The staging areas of the renovation efforts are where they usually keep the animals, so there is no room for them now).

No it doesn't. The Rangers have consistently played more games early than almost any other team and I've been watching them since the 1960's. For a long time it was due to the circus at MSG in March but that hasn't been the case for 20+ years. The Rangers virtually never have games in hand on anyone.

True, true.

Actually this was one of the better seasons early on. But come the latter part of the season we are NEVER, NEVER one of the teams with games in hand. NEVER.

Look it up.

Everyone plays 82 games in the same period of time. It is really not that big of a deal.

MSG is by far the busiest arena in the NHL. They do not get as much flexibility with the scheduling. In March, you get not only the Knicks, but the Big East tourney, NIT Semis and Finals, etc. so the games need to be squeezed in earlier. Will be interesting to see what happens next year with the arena not being available til early November.
