Missed the game.....what was your impressions of him? Did he play a solid game?
I checked the stats last night....looks like not a shot on goal was registered...do you think he'll fit in?

Seemed a step behind but thats to be expected. Couple nice hits and a nice take-away in the second that resulted in a decent shot by Kopi (?). He set the screen on the gwg.
I will say one thing though, that dude is a hulk of a man. You couldnt miss his huge body being on the ice. Reminded me of the first time I saw Lindros hit the ice for the Flyers (pun). He's a monster.
I thought he looked pretty good, considering it's his first game here. Like Nocturn says, he's just huge and takes up a lot of space on the ice.
It didn't appear he had a full grasp on the F3 system. He got to cycling down low (almost a little wandering) when he was suppose to be posted up high. In doing this though, he ended up cutting into lanes we don't usually see used in our system.
On the powerplay goal he kinda did this. He cycled right in front of Kopi while he had the puck, cut through the slot to the front of the net, and this opened up the cross seam pass to Stoll for the game winner.
Give him a couple games. I'm pretty sure this will work.

notice how the 1st line picked up after Williams was inserted into the F3 role in the third? not a knock on Simmonds or anything, but that move allowed Penner to work down low and be forced to remain the high forward... which is not at all where he's going to be effective.
Was at the game. He almost looks like a loaf out there, but I think he actually is a pretty smooth skater, which makes him look like he's loafing when he's not.
Had a couple of hits, no shots (although he did have one nice opportunity that he fanned on), but was posted up right in the crease on the Kings only goal, which is a great sign.

Absolutely. I totally agree and hope TM lets Williams stay up on the first line. This I believe is the line, when they get it all figured out, will be our most productive.
I thought he played ok for his first game. What I liked the most was how much jump kopitar seemed to have in his game, and if that extra jump is a result of having a legitimate left wing and it keeps up, then penner will be well worth it.
As far as penner goes, I wasnt disappointed with him last night, but he will look better as he learns the system more and gets more comfortable with his new surroundings.
His big ass in front of Bryzgalov was a big reason we won last night.
He did look a step behind and a little lost... to be expected after one practice. He did look more physical than I expected. Not sure if that was because that is part of the Kings system and not part of the Oilers.
Classic moment was him and Martinez crashing into each other.

This. I'm sure most posters here know I'm not a Penner fan at all, but if he contnues to sit in front of the net all night, he'll be ok. Needs to get some shots on net obviously, but like it's been stated, it was his first game and most players take a few games to get adjusted. Give him a few games to gear up and get the understanding of TM's system.
Hopefully for Penner, TM will leave him on a line for more than three shifts as well from here on.

but he didnt look like a 4.3 million dollar a year player to me.
He looked good overall. It was obvious that he was a little out-of-sync out there but that is to be expected - LA and Edmonton are two completely different systems. I was surprised with his physicality with checking, though he doesn't have punishing toughness like say a Matt Greene does, but what caught my eye the most was his passing and creativity. I didn't realize that he was such a good passer and had that kind of creativity. When he and Kopitar form some chemistry, there is going to be a reckoning...

Love the username!!
Thought Penner played well last night. He didn't wow or anything but he made some smart little plays with the puck. He also looked like he wasn't ready for the Kings system. I saw him get in pretty agressive on a forecheck after they took the lead in the 3rd and make a risky pass through the middle in the neutral zone after the goal that had to have made Terry Murray cringe.
The line was much better after Williams was put on the line. I love Simmonds but he wasn't cutting it on the top line last night. He looked like he went to the Brown School of Puck Flubbing at times.

give TMu another week or two and he will quash this and turn Penner into a defensive forward, while also sealing those cross ice/weak side pass to open players
The ice appeared to be particularly bad last night. The puck was bouncing like crazy and players were even falling. I still maintain the Kings play well at home because they are used to conditions.

He was playing sound defense in his own end all night last night. Of course, most folks napped through that.
Chill out. he played fine and he just got here 2 days ago. he did a lot of things right and was definitely a positive out there tonight. he was great without the puck as well but it sounds like you wouldnt know something like that
some good things he did...
-good pressure on the dman for their breakout...had a lot of sticks on pucks
-good in-tight passes, one in particular to kopi that almost led to a goal
-he had a huge hit in the dzone, and used his body a good amount
-he wiffed on two shots that wouldve been good chances...at least he was in good position though
only negative i could see (other than him not being comfortable with the system which is expected) is that he was a bit of a loafer and when the breakout would happen he would usually be the stretch guy. but then again, that had defenders backing off for him and it gave kopi a lot of room. kopi was a beast tonight his energy change was clear
