Jack Todd calling out Melnick for his Team 990 crusade against J. Martin

I've got to hand it to Jack Todd on this one...

Mitch Melnick has been quite merciless with his criticism of JM, despite the old coach's notable successes with a Markovless Habs team.

... and now we have Todd calling Melnick out in today's Montreal Gazette:

http://www.montrealgazette.com/sport...425/story.html

(Although Todd does not mention Melnick by name as the "loudmouth radio host"... anyone who listens to Team 990 knows exactly who he is talking about.)

Anyway... have some fun here

You just know that both these media guys read HFboards...

If this were a wrestling match, you would hope it would compare to Brock Lesnar fighting Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania and neither would return after the match is over.

Mitch would take him, he says on the Air that he fights dirty.

Awards:
Which is, of course, completely different from Todd's crusade against Carey Price for the last two years

I don't like Jake Todd, but Melnyk has been on Martin's case wayyyyyyyyyy to much considering where the team is in the standings and the injuries to Markov and Gorges.

Melnyk does criticize Martin but when he does he backs it up with facts and examples, I would hardly call it a crusade.
This is typical Jack Todd with an axe to grind with Mitch.

Melnick's response to this:

Quote:
Jack Todd is totally irrelevant in this market.

Thanks for listening.

You gotta hand it to Todd, nomatter how much of a ****** he is, he never forgets to try and slime his way back into the good graces of Habs fans. I have grudgingly come to respect the coach more than Melnick does, but I have no fear of developing one iota of respect for Jack Todd.

Didn't read it (and won't), but why assume he is even talking about Melnick and not Marinaro if he doesn't mention a name? Tony seems to rag on the org on a more steady basis than Melnick.

This.

I do not like JM, I think his style is boring and I hate that his teams take so many penalties. However, JM clearly has this team overachieving. That being said, it is doing this on the shoulders of a certain Carey Price. Todd can play his mea culpa all he wants, but real fans will not forget his 2 year Ant-Price crusade. He has no creditability and I can't wait for the day that the Gazette finally pulls the plug on the ole' cowardly draft dodger.

1. Jack Todd is not a reporter when he bases a diatribe on "but I am told that one of the loudmouths..."
2. Jack Todd is gutless for not mentioning who he is targetting in the media

Good stuff. Agreed about Melnick. I like the guy but he's completely off his rocker when it comes to the Martin bashing.

What JM is doing, specifically involving young players on team and thus redefining the core of this team, and the ability to "hide" injuries within the system both deserve serious recognition. JM preaches a team concept in which a team can win regularly despite perhaps not being able to match up one on one with other teams.

He is one of the great coaching stories of the year in the NHL if you ask me. His methodical, puck support approach has really impressed me.

I like Melnick, and almost never disagree with him, but the Martin bashing is dumb.

I can see it even going as far as simple disagreement with Martin's style - it is boring. But to argue it's ineffective or illegitimate is stupid.

This is like a strange Bizarro universe where I agree with Todd and not Menyk.

It's bound to happen. But I have to say I don't agree with any ones bashing of JM, Melnyk or otherwise. JM has done an incredible job with what he's been handed and last I checked we were just 5 points from being at the top of our division and on a comfortable playoff spot. In fact, we're way ahead of last years pace while missing our best player for the entire year. Montreal is a better team with JM than not IMO.

listens to McGuire way too much. Sure id love the Habs to be more offensive and more exciting but we arent. At times its frustrating but we are winning, hard to argue with winning

JM is an average coach benefiting from the leagues best goaltending since his arrival...

Most respected coaches in the league would have similar results, maybe even better.

In case you havent watch any other game than the habs one, JM had success wherever he went .. And it's actually the first time he's coaching a great goaltender ..

Regular season, but he's never had playoff success, until Halak last season. Ask Ottawa that one.

My favourite line:

Even Scott Gomez's Winter Vacation hasn't disrupted this team's winning ways.
