Sharks sign free agent Sena Acolatse

TSNBobMcKenzie 7:56am via Web From the great story dept: SJS will sign Prince George (WHL) free-agent defenceman Sena Acolatse today. Why is it a great story?
Acolatse was born in Fremont, CA, next to SJ, started playing hockey after going to a Sharks game. Moved to Edmonton when he was 10.
Acolatse is 6-feet, 207 pounds and has 14 goal and 14 fights in 58 games. Impressive numbers for a defenceman.

Sounds like a good enforcer type defenceman who has some goal scoring touch.

This is just back fill for taking Braun from Worcester. Acolatse will be assigned to worcester. Braun probably now has a full time roster spot in San Jose.

Congrats Braun!

I don't know about that. He didn't look very good last night. When Boyle and/or Huskins gets healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see Braun sent back to Wooster to log some minutes.

I'd assume this will be a ELC to start in the fall.

If he plays in Worcester after his season is over, I'm thinking it might be on an AHL ATO.

With the Sharks at 49 active NHL deals, I just don't see them "maxing out" (at 50). (I can think they'd be more likely to have one of their three CHL players already under contract have that privilege. Like Anderson.)

I hate to make the comparison to Byfuglien because of the obvious responses when making it but I'm thinking that is what Doug Wilson has in mind.

Versatile kid who can play up front or the back end, fights, and scores goals.

I imagine this kid grew up having to stand in line with his parents dealing with the god awful ****** Fry's electronics customer service - no wonder he's a fighter.

Fremont??? That's awesome, hope he makes it to the NHL, gotta represent my hometown and home of a Sharks Ice facility (most of the time Sena was there, it was the Ice-O-Plex...ahh, the memories)!!

Not to mention his dad is from Ghana, so if he does make it it's more diversity which is always appreciated in the Melting Pot Bay Area.

Don't worry about that. Big Buff also played for Prince George in the WHL which even adds to the comparison

I watched him play in Saskatoon last year, oddly enough when he came over here he was a forward but he dropped back due to an injury or suspension(can't remember) and I didn't know he never made the move back to forward.

He is really strong on the puck and isn't afraid to throw down the gloves. Hope he makes the team some day.

A free agent, he has spent most of this season with Prince George of the WHL after a trade from Saskatoon. Overall, in 59 games he has 56 points on 14 goals and 42 assists) as well as 121 penalty minutes.
Wow, not bad! Hopefully he can one day make the big team. Gonna be a couple years.

Would it be fair to assume that he'll play for the Sharks in that annual rookie tourney where the Sharks rookies/prospects play teams consisting of rookies from other Pacific Division teams?

Yes and no.

I think the rookie tourney will be in BC again with the five-six other teams, rather than the seemingly defunct "Pacific Shootout" rookie tourney.

Rumor has it he'll be playing in Worcester at some point. Also heard he probably heavier than listed weight, and gives as many punches as he throws..
Hey if we can't win, I'm down for some excitement..

5' 10"? Better start picking his fights wisely.

Edit... but the kid throws like a mad man.
