Penguins sold?

I don't have a link or anything, but I thought I'd pass this along. Scott Taylor, of the Winnipeg Free Press (he's also on The Score), was on the FAN 960 in Calgary today. He said that Lemieux has sold the Penguins, and they're ready to move, but Bettman nixed the deal until a new CBA is in place.

He didn't really elaborate on that, or give a source, so as far as I'm concerned, it's a rumour. But it's interesting either way.

Um... I can't think of much to say. That news is surprising. Is this Scott Taylor a reliable fellow?

Doesn't look like it.. Slots are passing and the arena issue has gone from highly in doubt to fairly likely in a matter of weeks.

Besides that, the Penguins have a lease through 2007, so they won't move at LEAST until then, and I'd bet that the lease gets extended as long as the whole arena issue is going in a forward-direction (as in under construction).

Yeah, I'm extremely skeptical. I trust Seachd that this guy said this, I just think the guy is completely full of it.

First, as Jacobv2 said, things are looking relatively decent here for the new arena. Progress is at least being made, nothing's for sure yet, but things are starting to fall into place.

Second, if he were going to sell the team, leaking it out to some guy from Winnipeg would be a terrible way to go about it. I'd have to think that the story would originate in Pittsburgh, not some random journalist in Winnipeg.

I think he's pretty rleiable but he is biased when it comes to Canadian clubs vs small market USA teams.

so I don't know about this, he doesn't seem like the guy that breaks news but talks about possibilities or talks about what has happened or could not what will.

everytime he is on the score he'll talk about how this or that will affect this sport/team or whatever, or he'll say he's heard rumors or rumblings and that so and so could possibly do this.

anyways could it be he said he heard a rumor that Lemuix sold the team, or that he thinks Lemuix might sell the team or something.

as far as done deals I find it hard to belive as that would be big news, not just in Pittsburgh but everywhere, the biggest Free agent signing has been Barnaby, not exactly a star player here, even a Rumoured Sale would be news at this point in the NHL.

I bought the Pens.

Not sure who leaked the news, but heads will roll.

No. I helped JiggyFly with the feasability study on moving the team. We determined that while Youngstown would be his preferable place to move them, Steubenville would generate more revenue. Therefore, the Steubenville Pens will be a reality!

.......We would also like to take this moment to announe that David Hasselhoff is the new official spokesman for the Steubenville Penguins. Mr. Hasselhoff has a long tradition with the fans of Steubenville, Ohio dating back not only to his days as Michael Knight and Mitch Buchannen, but back to the days where he came into our living rooms on a daily basis as an actor in Daytime Soaps. Mr. Hasslhoff is looking forward to renewing his connection with the great community of Steubenville. He will be a wonderful asset and bring the community its just recognition.....

there's not much to give thought to, on this. every few months, there's going to be a story out of winnipeg that a team is about to relocate there. just smile and move on.

Bingo.

The timing of this one is particuraly bad. Lemieux just said the team isn't for sale, the slots bill is on the cusp of being passed, the team is interested in bringing some big name free agents in...and now he just up and sold the team to Winnipeg?

Maybe... but no one said anything about Winnipeg.

I just remembered something. I believe he mentioned that the buyer was the owner of Pizza Hut.

I'm not saying I believe him, but it'll be interesting to see just how right/wrong he is.

Why should it be shut down? Are you feeling threatened? You already let your opinions known. It's time to move on.

Very. He never starts rumours unless they are true. I think he has a success rate of 90% probably.

Good riddance, Penguins.

The people of Pittsburgh should chase Mario out of town with pitchforks.

I guess he couldn't give a source, due to the fact it's not true. The Pen's are locked in until 2007. Now it looks like they might get a new arena. They have done everything right. Sure, lets sell the team, when we can't, and go against everything that we have done. This person who started this has no idea. No way this is true.

No, I do not feel threatened. I do have my sources, and they are way better than the thread starter.
