Timonen to retire in 2-3 years?

Well I didn't think he would pull a Recchi and most people figured as much so this is not surprising nor a big revelation just an interesting tidbit that Timonen somewhat let slip..at least his intention right now.

Quote:
“It would have been nice if we won the game. I’m not a big stat guy,” Timonen said. “But I’m sure in a couple years, two or three years when I retire, it’ll be a nice memory.”

Wouldn't blame him. He cashed in on a nice big contract with us and had 6 years to win a cup. He knows his body won't hold up much longer.

This is hockey's future. Step aside for that 5th round pick in 2016!

Contract is up after 2012-2013. Retiring at 38 is certainly reasonable.

This isn't the first time he's mentioned it. I don't want to think about life without Kimmo, but he's gotta do what he's gotta do. Kimmo getting the Cup is the #1 reason I want this team to win, and that's coming from someone who has spent the last 20+ years living and dying with this team.

When kimmo retires, we are going to have to fill a pretty big hole. Whats good though, is that 6.3 million will come in very good use.

I already said it numerous times on this board, the guy I'd want to replace Kimo is Ryan Suter.

That would be a pretty great signing.

Personally I believe that we call up LA and cash in on those "future considerations".

Think we can get Drew D for Matt Walker?

This is one reason Holmgren was so balls-out to get Versteeg. The Flyers have to win the Stanley Cup with Pronger here, and the best chance to do that while Timonen is here with him.

They need to win the Cup this year or next, otherwise I think our window closes.

But he also should have tried to do something else at the deadline.....And he shouldnt have completely screwed up the offseason.

why wouldnt he?

regardless if he does, I doubt I'd want him back on the team (at least not if he doesnt take a huge paycut)

Yea, that wouldn't surprise me. He'll probably retire from the NHL and go play back in Finland.

He'll play out his contract and if haven't lift the Cup by then and the team is still competetive he'll sign one-year extension at discount. Then continue that until he wins the SC or completely run out of gas.

That's my guess.
