ATTN: Pierre Gauthier - Call up Nigel Dawes!

ATTENTION PIERRE GAUTHIER:

Call up Nigel Dawes now! He has 6 goals and 1 assist in 4 games with the Bulldogs and a natural hat trick last night. He is an upgrade over Pyatt at this point and maybe even White if he doesn't show more toughness and grit. This is the perfect time to bring up Dawes, let him build chemistry with the team for the next 20 games and get ready for the real season, the playoffs.

Line combos:

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gionta
Cammalleri - Gomez - Dawes
Pouliot - Eller - Kostitsyn
White - Halpern - Moen

Hamrlik - Wisniewski
Gill- Subban
Mara - Sopel

I think he'd be better than Moen on the 2nd line...

It doesn't matter where he plays! He is better and brings more to the table than Pyatt.

It's actually 6 goals, 1 assist in 4 games with the Dogs, not 7. Even more impressive.

Still we have a lot of bodies in Montreal right now, so no hurry. Let Dawes keep killing it for now. White and Pyatt fill different roles than him in Montreal. It could be an experiment to have him with Pleks and Cammy instead of Jeff Halpern, but I don't think it's time for that just yet. He is only 5'9" after all.

I liked Dawes back when he was with the Rags, brings a lot of energy. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the lineup on Tuesday against the Bruins

Remember when Dusti Boyd got sent down? What about Bergeron last year after not playing all summer? Just saying give it a lil more time to make sure its not just a flash in the pa. Plus cunnneyworth uses the same system as Martin so at least he's learning.

And sorry for nitpicking but it wasn't a natural hat trick, his 3rd goal came at about 1 min into the 2nd

Not if he is in the press box or 4th line and PK specialist. Dawes is a guy taht has to play on an offensive line...not sure what their plans are for him, but I doubt he is called up for Pyatt or White as he plays a completely different type game.

Looks pretty decent, however pretty small 2 nd line, wouldnt mind seeing this:

Patches-Pleks-Gionta
Cammy-Eller-AK (2A)
Pouliot-Gomez-Dawes (2B)
Moen-Halpern-White (Darche when he feels better)

Not really sure where to put DD (maybe push White out and stick Halpern on the wing?)

This way at least we have some size to the top 6, realistically you could play the 2nd and 3rd as a 2A & 2B spreading out the icetime a little more evenly.

In my opinion that is a nicely balanced attack. Wish I could figure out where to insert DD though.

--> 5'9" is not so small, relatively speaking.

This is what I was going to come in and expand on. Let the guy get his feet wet in our organization, let the coaches get a good read on him and prepare both he and the NHL staff to assess his strengths, weaknesses, and role within the framework of our system, and THEN think about inserting him into the lineup (which means removing a better prepared and "in sync" - if not "more/differently talented" - guy from the current moderately successful lineup).

Maybe on a line with DD and Pouliot instead of White? At this point it's worth giving it a shot, we got nothing to lose

A natural hat trick is three goals in a row, doesn't have to be in the same period. Although I don't know how official any of these terms really are...

Anyway you guys need to temper your expectations for Dawes. It's not like we unearthed some hidden gem in trading for him. There's a reason why he's been through five organizations in the last, like, three years...

I know what Pyatt brings to the table in terms of energy and defensive reliability but lets be honest, he shouldn't be a regular NHLer. He has ZERO offensive upside to his game and if you can't score ANY goals when you're a forward then you should be a shutdown defenseman.

I see Dawes as a natural replacement for Pyatt and Boyd could easily be brought our 13 forward and brought in depending on who we're playing.

I'm just really learning to hate Pyatt and his seemingly uslessnes in the offensive zone. Add 10-15 goals from him and I think we win a couple of more games here and there and are closer to being 3rd in the conference than 6th. Just saying.

Well it's better to leave him there, cause clearly he's too big.

lol didnt think mods were allowed to have "in before" posts , dont people usualy say that before they know a thread will be locked ? o.o

but seriously, maybe 5"9, but 200 lbs helps, cammy is 5"9 180 and doesnt look COMPLETELY mismatched out there

id love to see him tried out in either moens or whites spot beside the duo's of DD and pouliot or more specificaly, next to Eller and Kostitsyn

do NOT put Dawes and Gomez together (unless it's on the 4th line).

Those two together against top lines will be catastrophic.

Dawes IMO needs to be paired with either Plekanec or Eller.

Personally I would do:

Pac - Plek - Cammy
Gionta - DD - Pouliot
AK - Eller - Dawes
Halp - Gomez - Moen

I'd do this :

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Dawes
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Moen - Eller - Kostitsyn
Pouliot - DD - Halpern

4 good lines.

As long as they are three in a row without anyone else scoring on your team or the other team it is considered a natural hat-trick no matter if the all happened from the 1st period to the 3rd.

Dawes has skills, he would be a nice addition in Montreal, even if he is in and out of the line up. Some extra scoring touch is needed on this scoring deprived team. Aaron Palushaj has been playing well too, maybe a cup of coffee to see what he can do would be good to see, he is 6' too.

I think PG and JM know what's going on...

Dawes looks pretty solid... and Manitobans can be very tough.

Dawes is shooting almost 55% right now. So that's not going to continue. But he's firing three shots per game, which is a strong number.

He's not going to be a scoring machine and if called up will begin on the fourth line. But he has strong enough counting stats that I understand why he was surprised he didn't get an offer, and strong microstats as well. He may make for a capable complement to Eller and Kostitsyn.

I don't think Gauthier got him as a random throw-in.
