This great thing is Brown is widely considered to be a star player, and we have our very own right here on the Rangers. With a higher hits per game, and 1 less goal in 17 less games, you could even argue Cally has been better than Brown this season. Gee imagine that, big bad Dustin Brown on the Rangers the whole time.
Dustin Brown is a slightly better version who hits a lot harder.

Brown is a better player though, he's stronger on the boards, hits harder and is a little better with the puck.
Cally is wonderful and getting better, but it's apparent he excels with a guy like Dubinsky on his line that can draw players, maintain puck possesion and carry the puck.
Such a great compliment Dubi and Cally are to eachother, great to see...
and to be honest, Anisimov does alot of little things on that line.
If we had a real first line to draw consistent top pair, the dubi, ani, cally line could be one of the best 2nd lines in the NHL

ive watched these 2 since they were squirts.
dustin having played here in syr with the stars and ryan against the stars with the roch amerks and both playing in the empire west. both kids stood out above all others and always played up. you could see the talent even then.
i have video of my son banging ryan callahan along the boards at games at esl in rochester.
cally has always been my favorite ranger since the day he was drafted.
dustin is the better hockey player but not by much.

Cally used to be goal-scoring machine in juniors and the AHL. I remember when teams would actually have to game plan to stop Cally in Hartford. He has the ability, but it just hasn't come to fruition in the NHL so far. Today was a quick peek of how good he could be if he put it altogether. Unfortunately it will probably end up being more of an anomaly than a trend.
I don't remember Dustin Brown ever getting injured for any significant time. He is a BEAST. If he played on a better team the last few years he would be a SUPER STAR. I know it's tough to watch Kings games regularly in NY, but I have and that guy is EVERYTHING I love about hockey.
and Yes Cally has many of those qualities. I'd say hes a bit more fragile and a bit less of an offensive skill.... despite those stats
Would you say that if Cally captains the Rangers to a SCF or a deeper playoff run, he'll be considered equal to Brown?
I think so, tbh.
Captaincy, no captaincy. It doesn't matter. I think Brown plays on a better, more talented offensive team. Callahan has spent most of his career to date playing with second or third liners.
I firmly believe that Callahan is in a very small group of players in this league, players that drastically change the course of the game in favor of their squad every single time they step on the ice. If he had better hands, he'd be a superstar. He does EVERYTHING else superbly. He is an excellent defensive forward, and it isn't about hitting, which is so overrated. He's a good deal better defensively than Brown is, as far as positioning and stick work. One of the most efficient players in the league in every aspect except for offense, where he is "only" good, not great.
Not sure if some fans realize how lucky we are right now to have a player like him on our team, especially at a time where the team lacks so much. He's the best and most valuable skater on this team, and as good as Dubinsky and Staal are, I don't think there is even a debate.
