Biggs had a great game winning goal against Canada to eliminate them in OT.

Prospects aren't made in a year, they are basically incubated for 18 years (and sometimes even more, where just deciding to have a child can be greatly influenced by economic times).

Russia heavily invested in their national sports programs, but that all changed when the USSR fell. The transition of the government in the late 80s/early 90s led to huge spikes in unemployment and the economy basically halved. Privatization decimated the state factories, and the economy in whole.

Take Ovechkin, Malkin (and maybe wildcards like Radulov and Cherepanov) out of the equation, yes, the amount of top line talent from Russia has been most certainly disappointing the last few years. But Russia went from a very prescribed pipeline to having the entire financial system of hundereds of millions of people flip on it's head. You are seeing the fruits of an entire generation (the last few prospect classes) where domestic priorities changed immensely .

Again, just a theory, but major events have a way of changing outcomes for decades, and there is some wonderful analysis and interpretation of the Great Depression and how it shaped so many things for decades to come.

That Khoklechev guy looks unbelievable. Just get a scorer, Slats

What about that Dougie guy? I mean we don't need a defensemen but maybe Kate Upton will come to our games and teach us how to dougie?

Centre Mark Scheifele’s stock rose dramatically at the under-18 world hockey championship in Germany, and the Canadian youngster could move into the top 12 in the June entry draft.

Former NHL star Dale Hawerchuk, his coach with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, is a big fan of the six-foot-three, 175-pound forward.

the recent article by woodlief mentions a guy i have been watching all season.

max hellberg. another swedish netminder who is a freekin monster in net 6'5

http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=13297

hes another mikael andreasson protege and just signed a 2 yr deal to play for frolunda in the sel. thats a good get for this kid even though that teams has struggled alot lately.

i would certainly take a flyer on him. he could be a stud in the making.

You mean Magnus Hellberg? Think you are crossing Max Friberg and Magnus Hellberg together

My question for you...which player in this draft has the skill to score who will bring an ill maner with him...that is what I think the Rangers need. I want us to draft a Lucic/Clowe/Backer/Stewart type in this draft, if there are any.

That is why I asked you about Biggs, does he meet the criteria?

Huberdeau is looking enticing right now.

Shiefele yes. McNeill no. MM would be a waste of a first rounder.

Since we are apparently getting a PP QB with Richards, I want a powerfoward who will cause havoc in front of the crease. Do any of these prospects meet that?

Haha. No. He can't. Callahan can get in there and get some garbage goals, but he cannot create havoc in the crease. He's nowhere near strong enough to do that. If Biggs is around at our pick, I wouldn't mind taking him for that reason alone. Might top out as a 60-65 point player, but he's a big, mean ****er who would give us a crease presence we haven't had in years.

I always knew we need a player causing havoc in the crease but after watching this series against Washington I believe its a top priority now. Nuevirth had difficulty stopping shots when he was screened. For some reason we didn't capitalize on this and opted to continue our inept dump and chase PP.

Biggs's dad was a gnarly and combative little ******* who spent many years in the AHL--led it in scoring one year playing for the Rangers farm team in Binghamton.

I'm not so much worried about the 1st round as I am the 2nd. I feel that at 15, Clarke will be able to grab a good player, whether is be McNeil, Scheifele, Ziba, Armia, or whoever.

I just hope a player like Grimaldi is still available at the Rangers 2nd rounder. Also really hope the Caps lose soon so the Rangers end up with a better pick than 56-60.

How would you guys feel if the Rangers took Sven Bartschi with the 15th pick?

I'd be happy. I think he is going to be an NHL caliber player. In this draft, i'll take that.

I'm with Fitz, this kid looks like an NHL'er. You lookin for offensive tools, well, the kid has incredible hands and quick release on the pass and shot. Goes to the front of the net like a PF. Very intriguing prospect.

nail yakupov leads the russians to bronze over the canadians in the u-18's

that makes it back to back wins by the russians over the canadians in world junior tournys.

the russian revival is in full swing. so much for doing nothing in international tournaments.

ya hear that jonathan

Really doesn't mean much. They should be winning a medal every year in every tournament.

And it means nothing until these kids actually do something at the next level.

I don't understand why you can't get that through your head.
