3-0-1 on the Road? Wooooo

The Good -

- Eigth!
- Enroth was good, but that breakaway save was game-saving
- Stafford had a lot of chances and finally it paid off -- no play anywhere else, why not attack the net?
- Rej with a lot of offensive jump again
- A five-pass scoring play on the first goal. Lots of touch there.
- Nieds was pretty good.
- Some good zone time from all four lines.
- Monty, +3 again to go with the two assists. That one big check stood out too. A real solid all-around game out of #4.
- Myers. I'm really enjoying how he's controlling play all over the ice. Pin a guy out? Done. Put a guy on his tail? Done. Grab the puck and turn the play up the ice by skating or passing? Good stuff. Come late with a big shot? Yep. Attack the net off the half-wall? Done. Bomb it from the point? Yeah... that too. He's getting better and better since his season opening four-week swoon.

The Bad -

- Two more injuries? Criminy. Kaleta might miss time, but we'll have to wait and see on Ennis.
- Blowing another two-goal lead?

The Ugly -

- Coming out with another road win and keeping the Pegula Power streak alive precludes an ugly. Except...
- ... they got owned at the dot. 12 wins, 29 losses? For a team that likes to have the puck on their stick, I'm shocked this didn't burn them tonight.

Now Do You Believe?!?!?

Good-

Enroth great in net giving miller a much needed rest
Stafford's confidence on the OT winner
Vanek-Boyes-Pommer
Nieds First!
Sekera-Montador getting it done again
Good speed by Sabres
8th PLACE!

Bad-
Kaleta
Goose looking too slow
giving up a 2 goal lead that easy
Morrissonn on the first goal

Ugly-
Ennis going into the boards hard
Sucks to be a Canes fan, karma for 05-06?

Good:

Having a backup that can win games. Enroth came up huge a few times.

Montador. What a rock.

Myers and Sekera with some offensive jump.

Stafford's winner. Holy moly.

McCormick not taking ****.

Special Nieds looked ready to get off the short bus.

Bad:

The second period.

Not liking Morrison these days. He looks shaky.

Bottom six injuries.

Ugly:

Nothing. It was a beautiful weekend.

G- Enroth, good solid effort. Nice save on that breakaway. Stafford playing big. Pominville playing better.
B- how Many times do we have to blow leads?
U- not burying chances, we could of been up 4-0 before they started scoring.

Good:
• That play by Stafford was awesome. I love to see him drive the net with both power and finesse.
• Nieds truly did have a pretty good game - even aside from his FIRST goal of the year!
• Sekera continues to be dangerously good
• Enroth was sharp - and got the win without having to go to a SO
• Sabres' win proves how overrated FO% stats are

Bad:
• injuries piling up?

Ugly:
• Those Xmas tree unis are horrid

Good:
- The Vanek-Boyes-Pominville line. They seemed a bit snake bitten after scoring that first goal, but they had a ton of offensive zone possession and had a lot of good chances.
- Ennis and Stafford played well together.
- Stafford's goal was beautiful. Just beautiful.
- Myers and Sekera both looked great.
- Montador looked good too, better than yesterday's game.
- Butler was steady tonight. He's been playing real well with Myers lately. Sort of reminds me of the Hank/Myers pair. They just compliment each other well.
- Enroth was solid solid solid. He really bailed us out on a number of glorious Minnesota chances.
- NIEDS SCORED

Bad/Connolly:
- We need to win more faceoffs.
- Tim Connolly
- Ennis and Kaleta getting hurt. Now's really not the time to catch the injury bug for us. Haven't we suffered through enough injuries this year already?
- I thought Leopold had a pretty meh game.
- Tim Connolly
- Morrisonn with another bad game IMO. We need to sit him and put in Weber.
- I don't like our PK unit. I especially don't like how passive they are. I understand that you have one less guy than the other team, but that doesn't mean you have to crawl into your shell and hope they don't score. We had a couple potential short-handed offensive rushes but nobody had the balls to grab the loose puck. I'd try Vanek out there.
- Tim Connolly

It clearly needs to be repeated. :>

3-0-1, seven out of eight points to start The Trip, the roadie everyone looked at as a big challenge from when the schedule came out and the pundits pointed to as a definining stretch for the Sabres playoff hopes during TSN's Trade Coverage and HNiC's Hotstove. Pretty good to think they have made the move into 8th, they're playing well as a team and can build off of this. Oh, and getting Miller a total night off helps too

So can we play on the road the rest of the year? These games are a lot more enjoyable.

stafford doesnt get that opportunity, and the Sabres dont win if it wasn't for Tim's tenacious forecheck in OT.

On a sort of unrelated note, has anyone heard the time table on either Hecht of Grier? With Kaleta going down now, Byron may be getting a call. Our bottom six is going to turn into the Pirates soon.

Weber will be back Tuesday. He would've been back tonight if the game was in Pittsburgh. Ruff is sending him a message and he'll unleash him in his hometown on Tuesday. I suspect ShaMo will be the odd man out.

Good:
  • Vanek-Poms-Monty tic-tac-toe
  • Drew Stafford channeling his inner Jason Pominville circa 2006
  • Rob Niedermayer potting his first.
  • Enroth with a solid effort, he contiues to impress me even though he scares me on every opposition shot
  • Pointless streak continues under Pegula
  • 8th place baby!

Bad:
  • A couple of bad defensive lapses
  • Another injury

A motivated, physical Weber will be extremely useful against the Pens. I hope Ruff does what you say.

sportsclubstats: Sabres chances of making the playoffs are up to 70%.

Just before the start of the new year their chances were less than 5%. Their 2011 record has been fantastic!

Sekera got the assist on the Stafford goal. That's 5 games in a row with 2 points.

This was a pretty good game for Connolly -- he cranked the pipe just letting fly on a play he may have tried to stickhandle into oblivion recently. He was dogged on the opening shift of the OT, and he was part of a line that generated chances tonight as all three had opportunities. If Connolly can keep finding that game, keep moving forward, good. They need him.
