As much as I like Langdon for the job he does, I think it's a job we don't need. I'd rather have a 4th line with guys who can play a little (or even a lot).
It might not be easy to find guys with Langdon's character, but it IS easy to find guys to fill the enforcer role. There are hundreds of them right now who are free agents, and there will be approximately the same hundreds available as soon as the puck drops on the next NHL season (whenever that may be). Who knows, if we feel we still need that kind of player, probably Langdon himself will be available in the waiver draft.
The Habs should decide whether or not they want to use an enforcer. If they don't, then they don't sign Langdon. But don't not sign him then go looking for another enforcer in the FA pool. Langdon's a great enforcer, he's done a good job for us, and he likes it in MTL.
Personally, I like having a Langdon on the team and see no reason not to bring him back. When he goes the way of Tie Domi and decides that he's too talented to fight anymore, then we can dump him.
I want to know what Gainey is thinking and planning. This is scaring the **** out of me. 3 days in I have heard nothing about anything. He's too quiet and letting Langdon go is kinda mistake we need someone to protect our players.
We really need an enforcer...Bob will have to look at somebody...Oliwa maybe Cairns...for sure...with Quintal and Langdon gone...we don't want Souray and Rivet to be doing the fighting...I believe Boneau is year away...
