^If I recall correctly, the story was that he attended a Leafs' camp, they offered him a contract but it got lost in the mail/computer/fax or something like that? Deadline passed, and he went into the next year's draft. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

Why do you always put a space before your punctuation?

Sorry, but it bugs me.

Jesus, the Leafs have got to get themselves a new fax machine! That's like 3 times!

I know! Next thing you know, they offer some kid a contract and he turns out to be the next Gretzky.

why would the leafs be kicking themselves? they've got their equivalent in darcy tucker. nucks fans love cooke, as they should..all heart, gritty kind of guy..but he's not the kind of guy that teams "kick themselves" over. plenty of teams have a matt cookie, sean avery, jordin tootoo and up until recent incidents, mike danton. agitators are great, but let's be reasonable, here.

Cooke , is just more than a "agitator". He was ninth in Selke voting two years ago, and can add the offence when given a top six role! When on the checking lines he can agitate , check , and all that! Just an agitator NO WAY!

okay, dude, I'm a Canuck fan myself, but aren't you overrating him juuuuuuust a tad? That Selke voting thing is kinda blown out of proportion. He's not just an agitator anymore, true (Ruutu's the official Canuck pest now), but he's not Rick Nash or anything. Besides, if the Leafs have their own agitator/offensive contributor in Tucker, they don't really have a need to kick themselves.

^I would say Cooke is more of a two-way player now than he is an agitator. He was a world class agitator earlier in his career, but that part of his game is more or less secondary now to the two-way role he plays. He's a 35-45 point player, capable of 15-20 goals and is a great physical player. He's far more than just an agitator, agreed.

avery, tucker and even danton have shown some nice offensive skills as well. tootoo might see some time in the minors this year because he's expected to start contributing offensively as well...but it's a bit of a stretch to call cooke a top six forward, and i like the guy.

I didn't say he was one, I was just saying he can add offence while playing a top six role .

He's probably not a top six foward, but he can fill in admirably in a pinch. It would be nice to see what kind of numbers he could put up playing on a top-two line for a season, but it's probably not an experiment we are likely going to see...

One thing... Cooke scored big time goal!
and Tucker and Avery don't!

Cooke is the guy you want to put on the ice with less than a minute left...

He proved in last year's playoff vs Minny and this year vs Calgary!

Thats the big difference...

Yea i know, tucker got those crazy hitz but his team lost In game 6 after the BIG HIT!

I dig Cooke.. Love such types, but he's relatively limited offensively as most of his goals come by icetime and hard work. He's a decent two-way grinder, who is bound to produce in the 30/40 point range. Also a nice agitator, but what I don't like about him is his girly behaviour when it comes to dropping the mits.. I wish he would show some more action and less talk..

Judging by how much it is talked about (never). I would have to say we do not care. I don't at least.

hard work yes, but icetime? he scored 42 points playing 13 minutes a game. and he did not play with talented players either.

he has more skills than people realize.

Cooke was selected in the 7th round of the 1997 draft, so every single team had their fair chance of selecting the guy. If the Leafs wanted him, they could have spent their 5th or 6th rounder on him.
