If we're playing the odds here, jarek, it is much more likely that Boston's PP operates at a clip similar to what it did in the regular season, not that it will stay down at 8%. In greater sample sizes, all statistics eventually regress to the mean.

Against the NHL's second best PK team? In the regular season, the Lightning were 8th and Philly were 15th on the PK.. and hell, Montreal was only 7th.. so Boston has had their chances against average PKs. Boston has actually had the third most PP opportunities of any team in the playoffs.

If I were a betting man, I'd wager that Boston's PP isn't going to get much better, if better at all.

The best thing about Boston winning is that we don't have to talk about Eric Brewer anymore.

We get to talk about Boston's #1 defenseman, Dennis Seideberg, instead!

So we stop making the finals thread about 2011 NHL:

There are a limited number of "elite" anythings - offensive or defensive defensemen. But I think the number of guys who can run a PP competently is quite limited, which is why those guys are in high demand, despite bot necessarily being any better than a defensive guy of similar caliber.

You are right. Running a pp might literally be the one thing player a does better than player b. Player a might get more money as a result.

That's true that there are not many who can run a PP, but how many elite shut-down defensemen are there?

If Boston wins, it'll be interesting to see how high Chara goes next time

Don't know why exactly, but I just don't feel like I am on thir bandwagon like I was with calgary, or edmonton. Ottawa, I actually cheered against.

But yeah, I just like boston better. How can I not like a team that beat the habs, flyers, and the team that beat the pens?

They have a good team - IMO clearly the most well rounded team in that conf. But they are a divisional rival of the Leafs - you'd have to blow my brains out before you see me cheering for the Flames, Oilers, or Avalanche...

As a Canadian, I'm cheering for Vancouver. As a hockey fan, I'm cheering for Vancouver (I think they have the better team.. and I don't think it's close, either). Being a Leafs fan also adds fuel to cheering for Vancouver.

So if Thomas and the Bruins win the Cup (assuming he wins the Vezina) do we think he becomes an automatic starter in the ATD?

No. That would only give him 2 or 3 elite level seasons.

Yeah, I don't care about divisional rivalries that much... I hate the Habs and Sens because they are the Habs and Sens. I have nothing against Boston and Buffalo... a couple tough playoff series would change that pretty quick, I think, but I cheer for the Leafs, so...... yeah.

I would say no. Solid backup though. And I wouldn't agree that he was quite there, when he was taken in this draft. But his value will skyrocket - relatively, that is. From a 1000th-ish pick to the 700 range just like that.

I saw him in the Potvin/Theodore tier prior to this season, I actually chose Potvin over Theo/Thomas in the AAA but I absolutely would not do that now.
