well, solving the PMD problem, getting a lottery pick, and getting a power forward prospect for some late firsts, a 2nd and a good centre prospect. i just don't understand why the Avs would consider this...

I'm assuming he didn't know Colorado is in the bottom 5. I'd easily do that deal from a Leafs pov.

ouch. i guess it was a worse proposal then i thought. To be honest I didn't realize the avs pick was currently third. I thought it was closer to 5th or 6th.

Even if our first wasn't included I wouldn't do it from an Avs perspective. We are fine on center depth, while we don't want to give up our best wing prospect and a good PMD. It doesn't address any of our needs.

Didn't Stoa pass through waivers - or am I thinking of someone else?

I do agree the Av's don't do the deal regardless. I like Colbourne - and the 3 picks are nice - but I think the Av's lottery pick is worth most of that package on his own.

That's tempting.

Gagner is still only 21, Hemsky is really underrated around here.

Kulemin - Gagner - Kessel
Lupul - Grabovski - Hemsky
MacArthur - Bozak - Armstrong
Sjostrom - Brent - Brown

that would be a nice line-up to watch.

If its a PMD you want the Canucks can give you Aaron Rome..but I doubt Vigneault or Bowness would let him go for anything less than the first overall pick.

Burke better not package away any more of our picks/prospects. Colborne, two 1sts, and a 2nd compounded with two 1sts and a 2nd for Kessel? Talk about emptying the cupboards.

You can have Tavares for that.

Just kidding, you're never getting him.

I'm almost positive you're thinking of someone else. THN isn't exactly the gold standard, but Stoa still made their top 75 prospects. Regardless, it still doesn't address any of our needs.

EDIT:
I think Colbourne's a solid prospect too, but he means more to the Leafs than he does to us.

Colbourne is closer to the NHL than Kadri at this point. Why would you want to move your best prospect at a position you are in desperate need of plus 2 other first round picks?
Id rather hold on to him.

Like any draft pick package, teams don't say "let me trade you my valuable player for picks". It's on Burke to pursue the player he wants and see if it can be done with picks/prospects. Alternatively, he must wait until a player he would like is deemed expendable by their current team, and outbid everyone else for that player.

Honestly, forget Hemsky, we wouldn't want him. We're just not the kind of team that can really benefit from his skillset. We need players with size for the top 6.

I'd like Sam Gagner, but problably limited to the cost of a 1st rounder + a prospect not named Kadri/Colborne/Blacker/Gardiner.

Gagner = late 1st.

Hemsky needs a team with a more established top 6 than Edmonton. His injuries come from other teams being able to single him out as he IS Edmonton's offence (minus the new youth of course). His injuries aren't consistent (i.e always shoulder or bad foot) and could be avoided if he wasn't always THE focus. Very solid player and with a talented player could put up some serious points.

Gagner for a late 1st in a weak draft seams about right. You'd hope a 1st round pick progresses faster than Gagner but he's still young, consistent, and looks to be a solid, shifty, second line C. That is perhaps what you'd hope a late 1st in a weak draft would turn out to be...

That doesn't mean it's what Toronto needs. I don't think Hemsky is a good fit for them but it's what it would cost if they did want him.
However Hemsky got all the chronic injuries is immaterial. Has frequent concussion and shoulder issues which are real red flags. He is damaged goods and no one is giving up much, given that.

Penner has value because he isn't damaged goods.

If Gagner is, in fact, a solid second line center then no way Oilers are giving him up for a low 1st rounder.

i'd like to keep Colborne, no question.

if i were GM, i'd dangle the picks and see what i could get...but it would take a pretty nice player to move them. hopefully Burke is thinking the same.

You are going to give up those first anyway for JML... maybe one a and second... so colborne a late first is pretty good for a top 5 pick... I think the value is there.. but with the amount of money the leafs have to spend I see them going another route.

I'm sure tavares grew up in the area and grew up a leafs fan.. wasn't there are rumor going around he wanted to be drafted by the leafs.. but they couldn't trade up.... well I guess if he grew up going for them and he is from the area it's more common sense I guess... so u fail...
