Our offense and defense are average, our goaltending is above average.

Our coach is fine, in fact i'd say he brings out the best in our group of guys.

Inexperience is something of a factor, i'd imagine, but we're paving our way over that as we speak, trying to overcome adversity and make the playoffs.

Toughness was a problem last game, no doubt. It hasn't been a consistent one though.

Injuries hurt us a bit, but we were due for those once in awhile.

I think it comes down to a few things...

1. Bad luck (1 goal losses, +26 gf/a)
2. Relative failures of Frolov and Gaborik to carry the offense.
3. Inconsistent Power Play

And for inexperience I'm talking about the kids. With stupidity I'm talking about idiots who should know better, not mentioning any names. For the most part it's inexperience.

The answer? Consistency.

Some games our defense looks unbeatable, other times they look very human, even below average.

Some games we run a gong show, other nights we miss 3-4 open net opportunities.

That could be inexperience, I guess, but I don't think you can say guys like Staal, Dubi, Girardi and Cally are inexperienced.

Inexperience leads to inconsistencies.

The Rangers were icing a SUPER young defense and at times have 4 rookies on the ice at one time(Stepan, MZA, Sauer, McDonagh).

They lack skill on their 1st line and consistency from their offensive leader(Gaborik).

They have an ideal 2nd, 3rd and 4th line for a competing team. I would say they even have an ideal 4 defensemen. They need:

2 1st line players(Replace Frolov, Drury, Prospal, Christensen)

2 defensemen who can help the PP and clear the crease(Replace McCabe and Gilroy)

I think thats the main thing.

The biggest problem is wasted cap space on Drury. That salary gets top line production, which is what the team needs to be consistent.

Yea, the biggest problem this year is the inconsistency that is our goal scoring.

I have been pretty happy with the defense for the most part, except for some young defensive lapses.

Lundqvist, for the most part, has been Lundqvist.

We really need that top line forward. I know that Richards might be the answer, but we need some more goal scorer ans less grinder-type goal scorers.

consistency. One game we have 6 goals, then 1 for the next 3.

They sign Richards and they don't have a problem.

Elite goaltender.
Elite goal scorer.
Elite center.
Elite young shut down defenseman.
PP QB.
Solid forward depth.
Solid defense corp.

The only thing that could be questionalble is health, and possibly a shot from the point. The shot could be resolved either within (Valentenko) or by re-signing McCabe cheap for one year.

This season was never about the Cup but about progress from the youth and trying to make the playoffs for added development and progress.

Add Richards and more high end skill like Kreider, and the Rangers will be a top team in the East.

Don't agree, whatever. We will see.

This team DOES have skill. It DOES have scoring depth. It DOES have solid defense. What it lacks, it can get. And continue to move forward.

The man with the cigar is still this team's biggest problem. There is no reason to think the Rangers will ever be Stanley Cup contenders with Sather in charge.

Our biggest problem is we have to play half of our games in front of the home town crowd.

Stupidity, inexperience, lack of skill (at times) and inability to string together wins. 3 and 2 game win streaks aren't gonna cut it.

all of the above?

i honestly have a hard time pinpointing one thing, all these one goal losses were caused by 1 or 2 of the 8 above, its been inconsistent as has this team. i can actually find a reason why each category would deserve a vote.

Offense- inconsistency, inability of gaborik and frolov to an extent to carry to bulk of the load, inconsistency of dubi altho hes been great.
Defense- youth and inconsistency, our young core is learning on the fly and in some cases that proves to be a problem, and its been a minor one amongst many this season.
Goaltending- im not afraid to say hank has been spotty at times this season, flame me all you want but he went downhill for a stretch there after getting engaged, biron has been/was a brightspot but not anymore
Inexperience/stupidity- see defense + dumb mistakes throughout the year across the board have had minor impacts on games, sometimes resulting in losses. not being able to lift the puck(ik how hard that is) and the countless times weve shot it right at a goalie when the net was wide open.
Injuries- doesnt really need to be explained, injuries have killed this team its been beaten to death.
Lack of toughness- probably the least of the 8 but at certain points in games where we need a fight, we dont have that guy to do it, regardless if we should or shouldnt. and apparantly it was a problem last night, i didnt watch.
gumption- admittedly i had to look that up not taking advantage of home ice, coming out dead/slow/uninterested looking
Girlroy- yea gilroy blows.

Andy Gross puts it nicely:

Dan Ellis was superb in net for the Ducks, but the Rangers helped him out by putting the puck into his body too often.

For instance, on the game’s pivotal play in the third period, as Ellis made a diving stick stop on Brandon Dubinsky and the Ducks came down the ice to make it 4-1 on a two-on-one, Dubinsky shot the puck too far to his right instead of roofing it into the short side where Ellis couldn’t reach it.

I think the offense and having a true elite player. Gaborik isn't Jagr.

If they add Richards and get even only a DECENT year from Gaborik next season (30 goals), all of the younger guys should get better and continue to increase production (Anisimov, Stepan, Cally, Dubi) etc.

Also they can add more skill and speed with Kreider and Hagelin and toughness with Valetenko and by doing that not loose much grit.
