Any interest in him this summer? Signed for 2 more years @ 3.5 per. Decent but not great 2nd line centre, excellent 3rd line centre. I would like to see the flames resign BMO, id much rather give BMO 3.5 than Stajan even though BMO isnt worth 3.5, but hes 10x the player Matt is. Then keep him on the first line, Joker 2nd, and Backlund 3rd. THat would mean no room for Stajan.

first of all, why on earth would we give bMo 3.5? a mil will probably get it done. secondly bot going to get much for stajan, and to the "lmao".. nice name bro

Our best chance of trading Stajan will be next summer. As long as its a team that is looking to reach the cap floor. His salary goes down to 2.5 mil per year for the remaining two. He could work for a team like Florida or NYI.
I always thought he'd be a good fit in Phoenix. Cap hit is higher than the actual price tag, right? Seems like a fit. He'd be an excellent player for our slower moving shooters like Doan and MacLean or maybe Pyatt.
Wouldn't give up a whole lot for him, though. Very little, in fact. There are other guys not fitting in well that could be had for cheap. Gomez, Antropov, etc.
first of all it's 3 more years. the only way you'll move him is if you take an equally bad contract on. even then i don't really see anyone wanting him at that price tag, cap floor or not.
better off playing him next year with the hope he bounces back and raises his stock, then you have a better chance at trading him.
The Flames are going to be sitting in that one and letting it stew (c) Paul Holmgren until his contract expires or they buy him out.
Overall they've put together a nice run this year but both the Phaneuf and Jokinen deals were unmitigated disasters. All the guys they got back were probably not worth Brandon Prust, let alone Phaneuf and Jokinen. With Jokinen, they got him back on the cheap (I liked that AND the Tanguay move actually) but they managed to acquire negative value for him in the form of Kotalik. At least that gets undone in a couple months.

As a Leaf fan that follows the team closely, I could understand why Sutter made the trade at the time. Why he would dole out that kind of money and term to Stajan, had everybody in Leaf land shaking their heads. Hopefully he has a bounce-back year next season for the Flames.
I doubt he'd get any interest. He's been ok for the Flames but isn't worth $3.5 mill. At that price they could likely get him through waivers without anyone touching him.

Even then, our bottom six centers are fine with Reasoner and Matthias. Santorelli>Stajan.
Guys, I'd like to apologize on behalf of the Leaf fan base for the posters like the one that trolled the thread, we are not all like that, but every fan base has them.
Matt Stajan can be my #3 centre any day of the week, maybe just not at 3.5

You want Gomez? Seriously, we'll give him to you for free.
Stajan blows hes only worth about 2mil at most he looked like a 2nd line center last year this year.... just SMH
Oh for the love of...
No. Seriously. No.
1. We take on an extra 1M towards the salary cap (that's a premium considering the contracts we might sign (Tanguay/Glencross) or get back (Langkow)
2. Babchuk, Erixon, Brodie > Komisarek
Heck, value wise Pardy or Mikkelson is even better.
3. Between Stajan on our 4th line or Komisarek on our 3rd pairing...I'd take Stajan all day. He might not do much offensively, but at the very least he doesn't hurt the team.

might be able to get him claimed on recallables? he isnt a bad number 3 at half the price.
more likely deal him for someone elses bad contract. im sure if calgary is desperate enough to dump him, then someone out there will have a worst contract they are even more desperate to dump

Stajan is worth a mid rd pick and Morrison is not 10x player Matt is and he is certainly not worth anywhere near that dollar figure.
