Three Stars and Wrapup : Edm 1 @ Det 2 (OT)

Vote for your three stars, top vote-getter will receive 1st star (3 pts), second receives 2nd star (2 pts), third receives 3rd star (1 pt).

Mini Standings thru 67 games:

Datsyuk : 49 pts
Howard : 37 pts
Zetterberg : 35 pts
Helm : 25 pts
Lidstrom : 24 pts

Post your top 3 and most #1s will be used to break ties. Write-ins count too, so feel free to write-in and then drum up your picks.

As usual, the thread shows up before the poll, so be patient and the poll will appear in a minute.

Oilers fan coming in peace. I think that game was the closest we'll get to a playoff game for a long time. Great goaltending, checking, and an exciting finish. Plus we don't get that second point to move closer to 29th(just need Dubnyk to catch mono or something)

Lids

Dats

Howard

Lidstrom's goal was absolutely huge. His goal turned the tide and suddenly Wings got it back. I would even say his goal saved Wings game tomorrow night.

I know it was against Oiler's AHL version but honestly Wings could use anything to get their team play back.

1. Lidstrom. Captain Fantastic saves the day again. Fluky goal, but at least he put it towards the net.
2. Datsyuk. 55 minutes of absolute brutal hockey from Pavel. Made a nice move early in the game but after that, nothing went his way. But then he showed what he was capable of and scored a beauty.
3. Howard. Weak ass goal. Put that behind him and saved the game for us. A lot.

HM: Dubnyk. (****er cheats. Even on his knees he's taller than the crossbar!! Ahhhhhh!!! )

I only vote for Red Wings. I don't see the point in keeping season-long tabulations and including guys from other teams.

Lids is first star without a doubt. He had a great game.
Howard is second star. Bad goal in the first but some really great saves to get the crowd behind him and the team.
Dubnyk should get the third. Great performance with 44 shots against.

Honorable mention: Datsyuk

When we have Wings get all three stars in games they lose badly and everyone plays like crap, we end up with Helm ranked 4th in the standings. He's been good, but there's no way in hell he's the 4th most valuable player on this team.

I stand behind my methodology. People just need to vote for the best performers and not just go Helm/Mursak/Datsyuk in every 5-0 Wings loss. Or if you want to look at it this way, it's player value as the board sees it. There's plenty of interesting data to be found there as well.

I agree with CB, and many times I've only voted for one or two people.

Lately here, it's been nobody.

I think you might be wrong.
I think you could make a good case that Helm belongs 4th, or close to it, in the standings, when you factor in things like, people don't vote for defenseman unless they score.
But how many forwards deserve to be ahead of Helm? Datsyuk. Zetterberg.
The thing with helm is, even when he's not producing, he'd doing good things that get the attention of fans. The same can be said of Datsyuk.

That's why Helm gets votes from me. Hell, I'm the one with the "Helm no hands avatar." I am the one who argues with Fugu that Helm has no shot to be more than a third liner. And I'm the one who argues that his defense is overrated.

But the dude plays hard. And that counts for a lot. I don't have a problem at all with Helm being ranked fourth. Not when guys like Franzen have been sleepwalking for two months and Homer hasn't scored an even-strength goal in 31 games, and Flip, who started so great, looks like a fourth liner many nights, and Bertuzzi puts the team on his back for three games and then goes cold for a month.

why is Howie in this poll?
he's the worst starting goalie in the NHL, and should be benched when Ozzie gets back...

sorry, can't go a single thread around here without seeing that, and this one didn't have it yet

He was awful, atleast 3 occasions he was bailed out.(<-- 1st 0:32, 3rd 19:10, 3rd 8:52 since u dont believe me there bob, have another look, or a first look more likely). Awful rebounds all night long. Detroit won despite Howard, and he continues to get propped up in this joke of a poll.

Sportsnet got it right.

Datsyuk
Jones
Dubnyk

HM: Alex Giroux

Same for me. If there's only one or two Wings deserving, I'll vote for just them. Recently, with the ****** games, I haven't really voted for anyone.

Not mad just like to see Ref's to be accountable for there blatant mistakes. There is very little consistence to the calls lately and this game was one of them. Then you look at some of the bad calls on hits that cause sever injury to players. When do you think the NHL will stand up and have players that hit dirt lose the same amount of time as the injured players???? Also without any pay. This will make the players think before they injure another player...
