I was talking to a friend about this and he came up with a few things(actually he came up with a lot but they didn't work out to 42). These are really stretching it but whatever.
1. The 2007 1st round was a disaster. Gagner(#6), Plante(#15) and Nash(#21)
6 + 15 + 21 = 42
2. Someone mentioned the Pronger curse. We received three prospects in that deal. Smid, Nash and Eberle. Smid wears #5, Nash has #23 with the Canes and Eberle wears #14.
5 + 23 + 14 = 42
3. We're apparently going to draft 3rd overall this season based on our positions the last 4 years.

My laptop went strangely blank when I opened this page. Paranoia is setting in. We need a platform where we can save these posts like Twitter. Or get notififcations when people respond to our posts. And introduce more advertisements in the process. Or less while the wealth is built like Facebook.
Point is that I absolutely love this prediction or deduction. Now who will we pick at 3rd?
Guys, this stuff is starting to freak me out, add to this...
7 x 6 = 42
Jason Arnott used to wear #7 in Edmonton until being traded in 1998.
Bobby Dollas wore #6 in 1998.
Dollas was then traded to Pittsburgh for Joseph Beranek who was again traded back to Pittsburgh for German Titov, who was later signed as a UFA by Anaheim, the same team that we got Dollas for, for Darby Bannister. German Titov isn't even German... he's Russian. Arnott is currently playing in Washington, who has plenty of Russian players. Who did Gagner get injured against?
The total number of games played by everyone who has been on the oilers this year, divided by the number of people currently on the roster, is 42.193... AND I ROUND DOWN!
