Hasn't been assigned on the AHL transaction page, but he'll definitely be heading to the Whale...I think.

Maybe they wait until the Whale has <10 games in the season so his first year doesn't kick in?

Quebec's season is not over yet. The regular season ends in a few days and Quebec is a playoff team.

Bourque can't play in the AHL until Quebec's season is over. The contract won't kick in until next season. Bourque will sign an ATO to play in CT if CT is still playing when Quebec has finished their season.

Good for Bourque.

I know some here think he wont make it or will only be a 4th liner - but I'm one who thinks he has the drive to have a Callahan-esqe ascension to the NHL. Not sure where hell finish up, but i think his determination will get him to the NHL, whether its with the Rangers or some other team.

I agree with you, i think some people are down on him just because they need to be down on someone. This kid can play the game, and plays it with heart and determination. He reminds me of a Ryan Callahan or Brandon Prust with more skill. I think hell be a good 3rd liner but only time will tell.

Like his effort; like his skill; love his pedigree. Can we overcome his size? The Sabres have a couple of midgets doing very good things. Good luck Ryan.

Prospect is a prospect.

Not a big fan of the kid but it wouldn't make sense to neglect giving him an ELC.

Doesn't work that way. His ELC doesn't start until next season. If he is going to play with the Whale when his junior season ends, he has to sign an ATO. Doesn't matter how many games he plays.

Yea, it's worth a shot. But I think there was significantly more hype surrounding his brother Chris (just look at what Hf had to say regarding the talent levels between the 2 brothers). I know too a certain extent, hype is hype. The player may not even live up to nearly half of the build up when all is said and done.
Chris's stats playing pro hockey in the AHL is much more impressive than what Ryan has been doing (although his stats are okay)in the Quebec league.

What's more puzzling to me, is that Chris never got a legitimate shot in the NHL. AAMOF, he ditched the league for the KHL...I understand Wash. is loaded. But no other team wanted to go get him? hmmm...like the offensively challenged Rangers? Surprising, even after Chris won a Calder Cup, and built upon his pro. hockey resume further, by winning the NHL equivalent to the Conn Smythe Trophy.

IDK, to me Ryan does seem like another 3rd or 4th line prospect. However, if he has lots of speed, and gets the opportunity to play with kids who can fly like Kreider or Hagelin, maybe they can cause a whole lot of turnovers.

good for him. hes a likeable prospect.

hes pretty much a pk guy and a ferocious checker. limited scoring upside and thus, prolly an ahl guy or perhaps he gets a shot down the road with the big club in a 4th line capacity.

his size is a problem. hes not nearly strong enough, fast enough nor skilled enough to be anything more than an effective pest at the pro level.

his pedigree will assure he gets atleast a legitimate looksee though.

one things for sure, hes a hard worker and damn effective at the stuff hes good at.

He'll be a terrific AHL player, and hopefully can one day become a solid contributor somewhere in our bottom 6.

Size and concussions are an issue for Bourque. I'm rooting for him to play for Rangers 1 day.

Thanks, Serge. I knew it was a couple.

He's undersized and likes to throw his body around. If he's had concussion issues playing against boys in the Q, I fear for him when he plunges into the pro game. I just don't think he can hold up.

The kid is a trooper though. I hope I'm wrong and he makes it.

Guillaume Latendresse had 4 concussions in 3 years in the QMJHL. I don't think he had one since. I don't think size matters when it's about concussions.

Bourque is more careful this season but size will always be an issue with him, that's for sure.
