The Kimberley Dynamiters select F Frank "Pud" Glass

One of those unsung heroes was Frank "Pud" Glass, a member of the Wanderer team which captured the Stanley Cup three times in four years... Glass is almost forgotten of that great team which the Strachans organized to start the season of 1904. But the club officials apparently knew his worth, for in 1907 when the league demanded that the salary list of the Wanderers be made public, Glass was the second highest paid man on the team. Only the great Hod Stuart drew a greater salary.

MadArcand selects Regina's #6 from last year: Phil Russell, D

TDMM selects Shane Doan, W

I am sending a PM to Sturm and RM right now.
Doan is the guy I think fits better into a 3rd line in this than Morrow. (Can't remember who took Morrow and I can't remember who thought it was Smyth)

That was me, I like Doan on a third line as well, but Morrow's grit is hard to pass up, he's one rough customer.

Why is that?

To me they are roughly the same size/grit/offense level and from the outside looking in, around the same leadership type of guy too.

Just wondering your thoughts behind it

Glass is an excellent pick. I had him tabbed as "one of those awesome MLD roleplayers I can steal later" - but I had totally forgotten his profile had already risen last draft (selected around 500)

That would be an interesting debate - Smyth vs. Doan vs. Morrow - who's better, and why? I don't even know where to start.

For me, Smyth > Doan > Morrow, without a shred of doubt.

I took him in the ATD a few drafts ago. Great pick though, my plan B for Murdoch.

after all my research this morning, I was pretty sure this was the guy I wanted to be my 3rd line LW. Pretty good offense for such a good defensive player:

points rankings: 12, 12, 26, 31, 32.
ES points rankings: 12, 16, 25, 32, 34
ES points vs. #2 percentages: 62, 59, 55, 55, 51, 46

It's a good thing I can make Oliver a LW if I have to, because as far as pure LWs go, for a defensive role, I don't see anyone as good.

he was my plan C for 2nd line LW role after Gagne and Balon, since i needed a good ES point producer. Since my 3rd line is a scoring line i was really happy he fell till my next pick.

I think that ES production would be pretty poor for a 2nd liner. But it's good for a 3rd liner, particularly one who is strong defensively (i.e. not just a guy who is "added" to a 3rd line to give it more pop, and there are a lot of guys out there)

At what point should we consider having VI or another temporary replacement make hhh's picks?

He's building a strong team and I'd hate to see it go to waste.

No big hurry in that there's a few more rounds of quality remaining. I have always maintained that judgements vary after the first 12 or 13 rounds and there are quite a few guys who go in rounds 21-23 who are as good or better as several round 15-17 picks from past drafts.

He has two picks coming up. If he hasn't by pick #605 I could do so.

I'll send him a PM now reminding him he has two picks to make up from past rounds.

The upside is that he's only really missed two picks. And that might have something to do with why he never sent anyone a list (he said he was taking a trip somewhere)

the downside is that we are all good GMs and are taking all the good players. his 516th and 525 picks, if made up now, would be roughly 583rd.

His team is definitely not crippled, but it could happen if he's not back soon.

P

Doan is who I thought you meant too. Glad to get him. The fact that he can play both wings like Phillips and mayorov gives me a lot of options come playoffs.

It's a joke relax, clearly I value him and his contributions to hockey I selected him as my head coach. His knack for liking physical smash mouth players fits my team very well.
