Potential Buyouts

I know it's early yet but who are the buyout candidates for this coming offseason?

(My apologies if this has been dealt with somewhere already.)

My hunch is that Mike Commodore is one possibility. Is Filip Kuba another?

Chris Drury will likely be bought out if he doesn't retire because of injuries and being the odd man out.

i'm speculating kuba, my board doesnt entirely agree, but the team seems set on putting rundblad and cowen in the NHL next year, and just re-signed phillips.

Gonchar, Phillips, Karlsson, Rundblad, Cowen, Lee, Carkner

i dont see space for kuba, so if he cant be traded, i definitely see a buyout coming.

Kuba, Souray, Drury, Commodore, maybe Antropov but that is unlikely.

I don't know about Kuba, but I'd reckon someone would claim him on reentry. 1.8M on a 1 year contract is a pretty good deal for a veteran guy.

Why Boyes? His cap hit does seem kind of high.

Hell no. We've already shown we're willing to put veterans in the minors (Walker, Leighton). If they feel like they have to berid of him, which I don't think they do, I hope they send him to the AHL.

Either way, it wouldn't get rid of the full cap hit.

He's on a 35+. Only way the cap hit is gone is if he's traded.

If Drury doesn't retire, how about him for Souray? His buy out should be less in cap hit and in real dollars. Unless of course Edmonton would rather buy out Souray then have Drury.

I'd do that in a heartbeat, but Glen Genius gave him a full No Move Clause, and I don't think he'd waive to go to the Oilers (no offense).

The Panthers will definitely be buying out Steven Reinprecht. There's also a chance they buyout Olesz if they cant trade him.

Olesz was the first player that came to mind, Drury is a possibility as well I'm sure.

Unlikely the Ducks will buyout anyone, maybe Brookbank but that wouldn't really be worth it.

Dumont for Kuba? Nashville saves $300k

Dumont has an NMC. Would he waive to come to Ottawa? Not like Nashville could threaten to bury him in the minors, so he'd probably just take his chances on being bought out & signing wherever he wants.

How bad has he been this year?

Since he's such an inconsistent player I was surprised he got such a long contract.

I agree it's unlikely that he gets bought out. Maybe in the last year of his contract if the team wants to pinch pennies.

They could try to waive him. Never know. The Oilers might be crazy to pick him up to have him play 3rd line center. Leafs might take him back, but I doubt it.

What do you think it would cost to sign him? Think he'd sign for 3 million?
