Gilbert really isn't worth much because of his cap/production ratio. Basically what we refer to in NY as the Drury effect. Also known in Edmonton as the Horcoff Effect.
Brule has upside.
Jurcina is what he is, big stay at home defender, not so much a Pilon as a pylon but he's pretty decent so I'd say <= Brule.
Which leaves Streit which I've gotta hand it to the Isles was a solid signing. Certainly Gilbert + Worthless Stortini doesn't come anywhere near the value of Streit who has proven to be one of the better puck rushing defenders in the league on a very affordable contract.
If Edmonton wants other Team's top players they're going to have to start offering up top stuff not spare parts and trash.
Streit may not know what the defensive zone, but even from a Ranger fan I've got to say, in the offensive end, the guy flies like Dan Boyle yet makes 2/3rds his salary and if you want that kind of player he's not going to come cheap.
General rule of thumb....if you are making an offer for a good player, and you are including junk like Stortini and Brule (yes, his 7 goals make him junk), then you aren't paying enough. Players like this have 0 value. You are including them because you know that the rest of the deal is lopsided, so you are looking to add to the package you are giving. But, one plus zero plus zero still equals one.
