I don't blame him so much. He's at his best when he's talking about Jr players, because he has a freakish amount of knowledge about those leagues (and not just CHL). I'd rather hear him talk about that than hear his NHL biases, even if he favors the Caps at times.
Disagree. He develops a crush and then rides it into the ground. Not nearly as informed as he sounds. MacKenzie owns him on prospects.
We are getting a lot of odd mans lately. We hardly got one for 4 months.
Indeed it probably has something to do with the fact that the puck isn't hopping over the caps sticks anymore nor are the caps blowing their wheels right and left.

He's excellent when he's not talking about Canadian players or Team Canada. When they enter the fray he gets too smitten with them and loses perspective.
No doubt on MacKenzie though. He's actually professional in his persona, which is incredibly refreshing.
I think our D are shooting wide a bit too often. When a forward is tight and a risk at a block/breakaway, sure. Otherwise, crank it on goal.
With you on this - it's the default play for the Caps D in the offensive zone and it's part of the reason they don't get more PP action - they're trying to run plays instead of going for the net. A conservative coaching choice - not a fan.

Something is up. It may be our passing, or going back to the stretch more. It seemed to be timed with the TDL. Which reeks of Arnotts influence along with Wideman.

Disagree. He's not. It's not like he's scouting them personally - he's going to the same wells that MacKenzie is. Mackenzie's just much, much better at it.

It could also be the team settling into the system more. First you master the basics, then you use the strengths of it to exploit other's mistakes. I think for a few months they were so scared of playing good defense, they were afraid to take a chance on creating an odd-man break.

It's a choice made because 4 of our defensemen right now aren't fleet of foot to say it nicely. Heck, even Alzner's not going to win a race against many forwards. Really other than Carlson, most aren't that quick.
If the shot is blocked above the circles, it means breakaway.
I think you'll see it open up a bit more when Green gets back and maybe Poti someday next season.
