I can't even begin to fathom the idea of trading Carey Price. I'm not sure there's anyone, other than Sid himself that I would want. Whats the worth of a young thoroughbred goaltender in the NHL?

On a serious note, I know you're saying it to save the trolls the trouble...

but what does Carey fetch? A first and an established NHL'er? A Phil Kessel type of deal? Multiple firsts?

Or is the goalie market really so weak that he doesn't warrant much?

aha exactly. Close thread please. For sanity's sake. Carey Price is not going anywhere and here's my reasoning. Any team trading for him would be overpaying because our team does not go without Price and he has so much potential. So any package coming back would need a big scoring top 3 forward, a scott gomez replacement/top prospect, countless picks/prospects as well as an elite goalie so compensate because our goalie system is weak right now. Forget the weak market for goalies out there:IMO a franchise goalie is any teams most valuable player. See-->Toronto, Ottawa, Colorado and NYI,etc for proof that contenders need goalies.

Basically, anything a team wants to send us for carey is not enough.
For any other team, what we want for Carey is too much.

I wouldn't classify Colbourne as a "very" good prospect, but, yes, this is probably what he'd get. A mid to late 1st + good prospect.

Goalie market sucks. Unless another Roy situation happens, no reason to trade him.

He is one of the top 5 goalies in the League and the NUMBER 1 player on the habs. How can that be worth a PMD that is not even a rookie and is more on the retire soon end of thing.

When did Price become a rookie again?

So you are saying a good prospect + 1st round + mid near prospect is not a good package?

If we have learned anything during this deadline, it is that the price of PMD are high, from the past couple of years we have noticed the goalie market is dry. What do you expect to get?

If only Kaberle was a rookie and not a 4 time all star. The Leafs certainly would have recieved a higher return if he was a rookie

He's still not proven as an elite player, although I doubt he's a one hit wonder.

But again. All you have to do is look at other big name goalie trades to gauge his relative value:

Alex Auld, Bryan Allen, and Todd Bertuzzi to Florida for Roberto Luongo, Lukas Kraicjek, and a 6th Round Pick.

Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen for Oleg Kvasha and Mark Parrish.

Patrick Roy and Mike Keane for Jocelyn Tibault, Martin Rucinsky, and Andrei Kovalenko.

Jaroslav Halak for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz.

Price is a very good goalie, but as proven, goalies rarely return significant pieces. Which is why Montreal would be stupid to trade Price.
