Sheesh. Crawford, Tropp and Biega have had acceptable rookie years. MacKenzie and Gauthier-Leduc were both named in the Top 10 drafted defensemen by HF in their respective leagues, Sundher intrigues me for some reason. The dart lands on... MacKenzie. Add Fienhage.

JGL add Shipley

JGL, Pysyk, Mackenzie, Schiestel, Crawford should all be on the block for their Center counterparts.

JGL. At this point, nobody is a lock (Tropp might be closest), but JGL's potential out-weighs some of the other guy's likeliness to play in the NHL in some form.

Add Persson.

Gauthier-Leduc and his exceptional offensive prowess again get my vote. Add Legault.

Sundher. Tough call for me. Came down to Sundher, MacKenzie, and Crawford. Crawford has been quietly impressive for the Pirates. Very nice numbers for a rookie who many believe(d) to be a longshot to ever make the big club. I've certainly taken notice. I also think MacKenzie is very likely to be a NHL player down the line. But I went with Sundher because I think he projects to be a quality 3C in the NHL.

I also like Tropp, but I need to see more than 9 G's in 62 games. The assist numbers are nice, but he's going to have to start potting more if he wants to jump passed the depth we have/are going to have at RW.

MacKenzie could be the best of their third rounders from last year's draft when their careers all play out. Very solid kid.

Tropp is flying way under the radar. He's putting up solid numbers in Portland and stepped into a bigger role more than once when injury and recall have pulled bodies from the Pirates lineup. He's impressed me after resurrecting his game last season in Michigan. They have themselves a player there.

Gauthier-Leduc looks to have better offensive ability than Crawford. I have a feeling he gets overlooked due to people lumping him in with Gragnani, yet there is certainly something to his game that is IMO better than MAG at the same point.

It's a nice tier here though -- Matt MacKenzie, JGL, Sundher, Tropp, Byron... perhaps even Crawford, Biega or Persson. There's so little to separate these guys here, much like the top tier, but that doesn't preclude them from being contributors -- it means they have a lot of those mid-line, mid-pairing depth players in the pipe.
