Michael Farber has cancer

Farber came on at around 7:55 like he usually does on CJAD this morning on the Andrew Carter show. He snuck it in there at the end he was going on medical leave and hoped to return by the time Andrew's going to the Cup parade, to which the CJAD guys (and myself included) thought he was only kidding - except he wasn't, which led to an emotional exit.

Be strong, Mike.

Poor guy.

He's the best English sports writer this city has seen in over the last few decades.

Seems like a very good guy too, hope he whips it fast and gets better soon.

That's very sad. Hope he's ok. He's always been a thoughtful, reasonable guy which seems rare in journalism today. I always enjoy his pieces. He has a sort of poetic quality to him and you truly get the sense that he "gets" the Habs.

Get well soon Michael.

Get well soon mike. I hope you beat it and come back sooner than later.

Any way to get the audio clip of him breaking the news?

Not sure, but what happened after he said he'd be taking a medical leave is that they asked him if he could reveal any details about that, to which he solemnly replied "if anyone's looking for me, I'll be getting radiation at the Jewish General".

Then there was a silence for a few seconds, after which Carter broke down somewhat, in a very apologetic voice. Abe Hefter too. Farber remained kind of quiet, although you could clearly hear him choking up in the background. It was tough to listen to.

Horrible news. Last week was horrible in sports land, with Richard Martin's passing and now to start the week off, we hear this. Horrible, horrible news. But Mike will beat this, and he'll get better.

Best of luck on a speedy recovery, Mike. We're all pulling for you.

Never liked him as a writer, reporter or anything. He always had a smug sense of righteousness about him.

That said, I wish him well and hope for the best - health comes first.

Best wishes.......It's a tough battle. I have Leukemia and Lymphoma and have been battling for three years! A positive attitude and strong people around you goes a long way. Give yourself long term goals and shoot for them. keep the mind occupied!

Best wishes in a speedy recovery!

Always enjoy his writing, when it comes to English journalist in Montreal you think of Red Fisher, and the Michael Farber.

All my well wishes and strength go towards your battle sir.
