What does Brooks Laich get this year?

25-30 goal scorer, PKs like a mother****er, terrific leader, signed at 2.6 but UFA. Does Washington resign the guy or do you think he makes it to the open market?

How much do you see him getting signed or re-signed for? We in Atlanta would really like Laich.

$3.5M? Teams may be a tad more conservative than the old days...

With the Caps - 3.25 - 4.0 (most likely 3.5 - 3.75)
UFA - 4.0 - 4.5 (seems like the type of player who wants to be on a contender)

He's going to play for the CAPS for the league minimum because he loves it here so much.

ok not really. I'd say the opening bid starts at 3 for 5 from GMGM and goes from there. I have no doubts he is the type of player who will take a little less from his current team. I am VERY nervous if he makes it to July 1 because there are quite a few teams who'll bid on him.

when your contract year stinks, you dont have a lot of bargaining power. mcphee has said that his desire and plan is to keep his team together. i think there is very little chance that leaves the caps.

i am trying to think of a good player that has wanted to leave the caps at the end of his contract. i am trying to think of a player mcphee let walk that has proven to be better than where he went to than in washington.

the evidence available says that mcphee wants to keep laich and that laich wants to stay. that generally creates the basis for a deal.

I would like Rick Dudley to offer him $4m per season for 4 years and trade Antropov to make room for him. Great player would love to see him as a 2nd/3rd line center tweener in Atlanta while Burmistrov develops.

I'm sure Edmonton throws some change at him. He is exactly what they need.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him get $4.5 either

Won't even hit the open market. Probably gets a bit of an overpayment to retain him, but so be it.

I think it depends on what Edmonton drafts to be honest. I really, um, Laich, his play, but with Gagner and Horcoff as 2/3, that leaves Laich as the top pairing guy. Which could be okay, unless the Oil draft Coutourier or RNH, who will hopefully be top line guys in 2 or 3 years. I think it all depends on the goals of Tambellini here, if they want to end the rebuild after this draft and go for a playoff hunt, then yes, Laich would be on the menu. If they want one more year of rebuilding, then probably not.

He'll be highly coveted this summer; a two-way player who has the versatility to play almost anywhere in the lineup, and produce. I'd say $4MM sounds about right.

I can't personally ask him where he would want to play if Washington doesn't resign him, but he is a classy guy and probably would not go to a division rival, as I see many Thrasher fans posting here. He is basically the anti-Scott Gomez/Bobby Holik

Perhaps a real nice offer from the Kings since Handzus will be coming off the books.

I don't see him re-signing in Washington for less than 4.5 mil over 4-6 years. If he hits UFa with a pretty bare market, I think he could get as much as 5.5 mil over 4-5 years. His stats are down a bit this year(whole team is in fact) but has seasons of 53 and 59 points so he will be the 2nd or 3rd best UFA forward after Richards and possibly Jokinen.

While Laich has played C recently with Backstrom down with a broken finger, his primary postition is LW.

Oilers would give him 2 years at 4 million.
