Until someone has a definitive answer to the question, it should be assumed that it is in effect due to the CBA. NMC's move with the player when he gets dealt unless it is written in the contract that he loses it when he uses it.

It's funny how all the Ottawa fans gang up in every Heatley thread and try to downplay his value.

The reality is- is that he did score 39 goals last year and had a PPG.

Also he would be leading Ottawa in Goals and Points. Hell, he is 19 pts up on Ottawa's top producer. And don't even bring up injuries. His PPG average is still higher than anyone. SJ as a whole is producing a more balanced offence. They don't rely on their big 3 so much anymore.

- declining goal totals 3 years running (on pace for only 26 G and about 70 points this year)
- not good defensively
- slow
- weak on the puck
- horrendous, long-term contract
- disappears when it counts
- can't play through pain
- doesn't make anyone around him any better
- headcase
- 2 trade demands in the last few years
- etc.

The only way you MAY get rid of him is to package something good with him, and take a slightly smaller dump back, or trade him for an equally bad contract. Even if he wasn't declining (and he most definitely is, hardcore), having that contract on your cap handicaps you everywhere else.

We know he likes NY... Heatley for Redden.
Wrong.

Lee Stempniak is just a fluke of a player.. I regretted The Leafs trading Steen and Coliacavo (Mostly Steen) For him useless trash!

that isn't looking to shabby
Um... LA doesn't have their 2011 first anymore. They traded it to EDM in the Penner deal.

I agree with the fact heatley is slow, he is. But the guys right on the other wrong points. Heatley was injured last year, how many games did he sit out cause he couldn't play through it? Also heatley has been much better defensively this year. Is he great defensively? No, but then again he is not a two way forward. He has been very good defensively this year for a scoring forward. It actually looks like his numbers are down cause he is trying too hard to play better d. The guy that posted the list of heater hate is obviously a sens fan that doesn't stay up late enough to watch the sharks games. As a sharks fan, is heatley overpaid? Yeah by a few mil. Would I want to trade him? No. For all the hate, heater is a big name scorer. He makes others around him better cause teams are worried about him on the ice. Hopefully teams start thinking like the people on this board and he goes under the radar into the playoffs. Then when he lights it up watch the hate turn to praise

Heatley does not have negative value. maybe he does in HF world where prospect > vets, but NHL GMs dont have such a short term memory. Scott Gomez got a top prospect, and a team took on his salary. Heatley would get something good.

30-40 goal scorer
veteran with playoffs experience
goes to those dirty areas to score
not a rental

i disagree that he would be enough to get Bouwmeester, but id love that trade
