At this point the Habs may as well claim him. With Pleks/Halpern/MaxPac out we are dangerously thin up front and have already stripped our farm team of its key players. His 50% caphit would be 1.5 million with 1 year remaining on his contract.
Its not pretty but it would have to do in the stretch. Either way we are a team that relies on goaltending and Carey Price is the key component to this team regardless of who is injured.
I doubt any team claims him, although he has shown some life in teh AHL... 19 points in 18 games... is the only regular player with a higher than .5 point per game pace and already leads the club in +/-

Aren't those valid reasons for why someone should pick up Kotalik at a price of 1.5 million?
I like Kotalik. Its sad that he has played so poorly before his AHL stint. Glad to see he took it well, and really hussled.
Jon Rheault, a teammate on Kotaliks AHL team (Abbotsford Heat) said of Kotaliks demotion and play since joining:
"I was completely surprised by his attitude ... You can only imagine how tough that would be, to be in his position and come down here. You'd assume that most people would have a bad attitude. But he's been a great leader for us. It's been a great experience for us. I know it's not the best thing in his career right now, but he's handling it real well. I was really, really surprised. He's gained everyone's respect."
Is it still likely he will be bought out in the summer? Any info would be appreciated, Calgary fans.
I believe that a team may claim him, although he cannot actually play for another team. I'm pretty sure that a team cannot add players that are outside of their organization at this point in the season.

You can play him during the regular season. But he would not be eligible for the playoffs this year.

perhaps, but i think more people will look at his 30 points in his last 91 games and the fact he is skilled enough to get by on talent alone in the AHL

Unless he can play a significant role in getting the flames in to the playoffs and helping them win a round, I have to think the team would still buy him out this summer.
Personally, I think they should buy him out regardless of how he plays from here on, like even a miraculous PPG pace with GW playoff goals, just based on the fact that I know Kotalik can be a tease when he wants to.
