Sergei Bobrovsky

Does he have the potential to be a #1 goalie? And does he see any ice time this year?

There are people here who are way more qualified to give you an answer, but from what I've read, he definitely has potential to be a #1 goalie. All the reports from the rookie camp said he was pretty fantastic and for the past couple years he's been a very good goalie in the KHL despite playing for a mediocre squad. I don't think he'll play any in the NHL this year, he'll spend the season with the Phantoms, but in the next few years, he'll get his chance to be the top goalie for the Flyers.

I, like most everyone else around here, am really excited about both him and Eriksson in our goalie pool.

The things that I've read about Bob is that he has all the things you cant teach like mental toughness, vision, etc. We have a great goalie coach who can refine his other skills and could launch him into a franchise goalie position. Right now, he's probably a solid AHL starter / journeyman NHL backup... In 5 years I imagine we will see Bob starting and Joacim backing him up.

If Leighton/Boucher aren't playing so great this season could Bobrovsky come in and light it up or is this season too early? I don't follow the prospects much

No. I don't think it would be good for the development of the goalie prospects. They aren't ready at all. They still have to get used to NA rinks and adjust to the game.

IMO goalies are very hard to read. I remember being excited about Ouelette.

I do think though that out of the two prospects we are pumping up at least one should have some NHL potential.

I haven't actually seen him on the ice yet, but from what I have read he has the potential to make it big. But potential doesn't always work out. I try not to get wrapped up in hype until I see a guy play in a real game, be it AHL or NHL.

From what I read from alot of people that went to the prospect camp, he played incredibly good. He started off alittle slow (which is to be expected) but by the end, he started to carry his team. He was placed on the worse team at the camp, and I remember reading that during one of the games he saved around 30 shots, went into ot and saved like 10, then went into the shootout where he stopped like 8 in a row

I hope he stays in the AHL this year. He is only 21 so he needs time to develop. That being said, I can easily see Homer if Leighton/Boosh do bad or even get hurt, Bob playing maybe half a game or maybe even staying one.

with the Flyers, any goalie in most leagues has the potential to be the starting #1 goalie for this franchise. So to answer your question yes he has the potential to be the starter somewhere down the line... I mean Michael Leighton is the #1 goalie currently....

Unless injuries happen again, I want Bobrovsky to just be left alone down there for a year.

backlund would likely be the call up in case of injury or outright suck from our current tandem. we would likely see a trade before seeing bob in the nhl in my opinion (which is rather uneducated). rushing him to the nhl is a good way to stunt his development.

We all understand Backlund would be a callup, but Bob would play in extreme circumstances.... like last year where we had 2-3 goalies hurt at once and had to play a ECHL goalie in net.

I don't get stuck up in the hype until I see them play in the NHL, but I have to believe it's likely that at least one of Eriksson or Bobro turns out pretty decent.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this guy, everything I've read says he might be really good.

I agree. Damn fine job for his first year. Once he gets his positioning and puck-handling under control, he'll be a beast.

Oh, the potential is definitely there. They just need to stay patient.
