The Non-Ski Resort OT Thread

The Ski Resort thread is sacred. We don't need nonsense filling that up.

Does Tsunami Sushi on Robson still exist? I would imagine they aren't doing so well right now.

I chuckled.

People cope with tragic situations in various ways, and I think humour is a valid way. If you ever talk to paramedics, you'll be shocked to hear the jokes they'll come up with.

British Columbia's minimum wage is going up...way up.
Training wage is abolished. 8 dollars an hour..destroyed.

May of this year goes to 8.75, November of this year goes to 9.50, May of 2012 goes to 10.25 an hour.

Some guy in Vancouver making a quip on a hockey messageboard isn't coping "with tragic situations", they are simply making light of them.

It's about time. It was pretty ridiculous that the most expensive province to live in had the lowest minimum wage.

It's interesting to know there's people out there with absolutely no senses of humor who will do their damnedest to enforce their views on others. These people are making the world a better place for all of us by suppressing harmless ideas. Right Gilbert Gottfried?

Seriously though I am really irritated by the backlash against Gottfried for harmless jokes on his twitter. Americans in general need to calm down, relax, and realize it's not that important.

...And yes I'm an American for those that didn't know.

The situation itself is that important. I think what people don't understand is people have different ways of processing and dealing with death and tragedy.

Yeah totally CCF, I'm not necessarily talking about the situation, I'm talking about American's response to it... It's like just because bad stuff happens, that doesn't mean we can't laugh about it. If you can laugh at something, it's not scary or bad anymore.

Yeah. In my mind there's a big difference between, say, a joke and then the idiots saying Japan "had it coming" for Pearl Harbor.

Yeah, okay, they had it coming...Because the two nukes dropped on them weren't more than enough.

I agree with you completely. You should see the firestorm that started on my Facebook when I posted a couple of tsunami jokes on it and then someone made that idiotic Pearl Harbor comment... 60 angry posts from comedians calling him out followed until I finally deleted them all to avoid the e-drama.

I just don't think there's anything that's beyond joking about or making fun of as long as it's innocent and well done.

If you can't laugh at something, you're not really over it.

How about Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus)on the Seinfeld episode "The Little Kicks"?

George (Jason Alexander) describes the dance as "a full body dry heave set to music".

I never got the anger over jokes. Guess what, saying that something is terrible or a tragedy does not change things and neither does a joke. If you think Japan is a tragedy, donate some money or shut the **** up. Words won't make a difference there one way or the other.

Why exactly do we have East Coast mods perusing our sub-forum lately? I can smell them from here.
