Vezina, Hart or None of the Above - Carey Price

With pretty much 11 games left for the season, it is no shock to anyone if I were to say Carey Price was single handedly our best player all season.

With that said, what do you believe his chances are at capturing the Vezina or Hart trophy.

Choose in the poll above.

My answer: I'm not quite sure about Vezina, but I think he is a top 3 if not the winner of the Hart Trophy. This team has had SO MANY IMPORTANT injuries this year, and so many games have been won by him. Really, with out him we are probably fighting for 8th or fighting for first... round overall.

He deserves both imo, but I want him to get neither because he will cost us 7 million a year, which thanks to Mr.Gomez we can't afford.

I strongly believe, he gets 4-5 million if it's a short term deal (with trophy or not) but if it's a long term deal.. yeah. 6-7 million. That's my guess.

Price, Thomas and Rinne are basically locks for Vezina candidacy.. Hopeful Price wins. Hart is more of a long shot, but if they stay true to the definition of "player most valuable to his team" then he should be the front runner

Montreal has to lock Price down longterm, as well as Subban when they can. It should be priority #1 after this year.

Kind of a strange situation. I think Thomas is more deserving of the Vezina, but Price is more deserving of the Hart. I wouldn't be surprised if Price won it either. No forwards really dominated this year or carried their team like Price. He should be MVP, but then again, this is the NHL we are talking about here...

I honestly think he deserves the Hart, but that Thomas deserves the Vezina.

He deserves high praise in both categories but he's likely beaten by others.

Fantastic goalie having a great season and his best years are ahead of him.

That being said, he shouldn't win any of these awards this year. Tim Thomas is just having an absolutely incredible season and he has to win the Vezina. If he doesn't win there's something really wrong.

Price will win it someday, but he shouldn't win it this year.

The numbers are there and he is having a great season, award or not he will cost us a good amount especially if he repeats this next year. He is our franchise and we have no choice to pay him well

Halak didn't win the Hart last year, so neither should Price.

Price will be nominated for the Vezina but not for the Hart. Just my opinion.

He will win neither.

He'll be a finalist for the Vezina, not for the Hart.

Won't win either, but I think he'll definitely be discussed (but not necessarily nominated) for both.

How can you not at least consider him? Most of the team either is currently injured or was injured and yet the Habs are still in a comfortable playoffs spot.

Halak only had two great playoff series last year, so of course he didn't win it...

If Price is going to cost 7 millions I can assure you Gomez contract won't make it unaffordable, he'll be sent to Hamilton, no doubt about it.

He's going to get nominated for the Vezina, but not the Hart.

Price is having a much better season than Halak did last year, so I don't get your point? Halak had a great post season, Hart is for the regular season

Can a goalie win the Hart but not the Vezina? I know the actual definition for the Hart is the MVP, but in practice don't they just give it to the 'best' individual season?

I want to say both, but there's a lot of goalies with big numbers.

Luongo
Rinne
Thomas
Price

Then there's Bryzgalov, Fleury and Quick.

The only clear advantage Price has over the top tier is games played. Luongo has a better winning percentage, save percentage and GAA, with the same amount of wins.

I can't recall a season with so many goalies having great save percentages. I think Thomas clearly deserves the Vezina. .939 save percentage is well above the pack.

Thomas has the Vezina. His numbers are ridiculous.

I think Price will be nominated for Hart and imo should win. Look at every nominee and the other star names on that team...then look at Price's situation with all the injuries.

Leafs fan here, I think he'll win both.

Why he'll win the Vezina:

I know the Vezina goes to the top goalie, and it seems like Tim Thomas has been that this year, but Price isn't far behind. He's played the most games as a goalie and has had consistent numbers throughout the whole season.

Thomas has been stellar but the Bruins were supposed to win regardless even if Thomas was the 7th best goalie or w/e, which of course wouldn't happen now that we look at it.

Price and the Habs weren't supposed to win if they didn't get that remarkable goaltending. Losing your top 3 defensemen and yet playing good is something not many can do.

As for the Hart:

The Sedins have each other, they are expected to score big.
Stamkos has St. Louis he's expected to score 50 if someone like St.Louis is with him.
Sidney Crosby would have won the Hart if it wasn't for his injury, but if you look at the guy that is most valuable to their team it has to be Price.

If Price didn't play the way he did, the Habs would be 8th (not saying they're bad, just saying that there were TOOO many injuries on both the forwards and defensive side).

IMO, he'll definitely win the Hart, and might end up losing the Vezina to Thomas.
