With using the word Habs???

Price should sue you for using his name, or Vanilla Ice for using the name of his movie... I've always wondered how you could get away with that... (?)

I don't see how people should be pissed off about this. (twitter)

I'm going to use this line from so many movies.

"It's not personal, it's business"

and Habs is trade marked by the Canadiens (and they have every right to do it) or else anyone can go and sell merchandise with the words HABS on it and Canadiens get 0 profit.

http://www.trademarkia.com/habs-76437160.html

Why now? Maybe they didn't think Habs inside out would be so big. Maybe they don't want any comments made on habs inside out to be associated with the organization. That's the only weird part for me. But yeah they have every right to do this.

Have they trademarked the word Habs though? (honest question, I assume they have)

It's weird, I wonder if the Lightning would request a site called boltsinfo.com to change names.

For all we know, the Canadiens organization could have asked The Gazette if they wanted to keep it, they'd have to pay up.

I can understand why the Canadiens would request this. There has to be an element of people who cannot discern that Habs Insideout is a separate entity and operated by the Montreal Gazette. And with the advent of Twitter accounts it maybe makes it less discernible.

There's definitely content on that site that you would never find the Canadien Official site. Maybe there has been some repercussion from the Chara / Pacioretty incident that has prompted the change at this time.

I've always enjoyed HIO and will continue to do so but I understand the name change aspect.

They've been doing free publicity for the Habs for 5 years? And now they want them to get rid of a word.

More like the use of the word "Habs" has increased the traffic for the Montreal Gazette. You just don't get to use a Trademark at your leisure. Surprised it didn't happen sooner. But I wonder about the other sites using the name "Habs".

That too. Didn't think the word 'Habs' was a trademark/copyright.

Maybe it's to shut up the ignorant people who haven't read an actual press release yet still accuse the ORGANIZATION of LYING.

I'm too lazy to research if they have Habs trademarked for other reasons, but on that site it says that the Goods and Services touched by the patent are: "clothing, namely, bandannas, caps, hats, headbands, jackets, shirts, sun visors, sweatshirts, T-shirts"

Habsinsideout is a website, or publication. If they felt like it, they would be able to fight in order to keep using the name habsinsideout, though they would probably lose for other reasons I don't feel like getting into right now. Either way, they might have a chance to win a court battle in order to keep using the name, but they probably don't think it's worth the effort

That's a joke right?

Protection is fine, but not when the warriors are on your side.

He doesn't get 2M page views... It's all about how big you are/get and how much money you can/could make using the name.

It's about advertising, 50 percent of us have ad blockers anyway. I think that the Habs are controlled by the NHL & that's the real reason they are blocking it.

A nickname cannot be controlled, that's worth an Ottawa supreme court fight in future.

1sr stage fight for sure!

It is if the team or the NHL owns the rights nickname and it's association with the team.

(not sure if the team or the NHL owns the nickname though)

Why not? It's a nickname that's been associated with the team forever, the logo even hints at it, it's not pushing at all and quite legal.

(if they were smart enough to copyright of course)
