Wade Belak from the Predators confirms to @jeffmarek and @bjaffe on @hnicradio that he has retired. Loves Nashville & working for team 27 minutes ago via web
Retired from hockey I assume. He'll still be helping out the team in other areas, right? Commentary and whatnot.
Yes, Wade has accepted a position with the team as an ambassador and will serve in a variety of functions. He and his family have settled in Middle TN...
The one thing I don't understand about the whole Belak situation is why didn't we just have him play out his contract as a player? Is our numbers for our roster that tight? Everybody talked about he's a fun guy and good in locker room and around all the guys. Helps lighten the mood and what not. So why not have him stick with the team until the season was over and then put him into his role he has now?

That's wonderful. He's a good addition to Nashville.
Does that mean he retires a "Nashville Predator" or do hockey players just retire from "the NHL" or "hockey"...or can they choose?

I think what you're referring to is if someone gets inducted into the hall of fame. I think that's just baseball though. When you retire, you just retire from the game.
Why "have" the torch been passed to Tootoo? He was throwing down as an enforcer before for we even got Belak? He's just a bit more of a scorer than Belak.

No, I wasn't thinking about the HOF, just regular teams. I'd heard where someone would go back to a team where they played earlier in their career or to a team near where they grew up so they could "retire a __________" , but I didn't know if there was an official designation or not. Thanks for the info.
He may not be a traditional enforcer. Since Belak was always a perma-scratch, he's the closest thing we've had since Hordichuk left.
In the new age NHL, every player no matter which line you're on, needs to contribute offensively in some way. Sure Tootoo isn't Belak, but he'll be looking out for the team for sure.
