Except in two years Watson has probably scored more goals than Smithson has scored since he first laced his own skates. And I'm not saying Watson has scored some large amount of goals.
And proceeded to have a pretty great season in the low scoring WHL on a mediocre team. NCAA isn't for everyone.
It would just be nice to mix someone that may have some offensive ability in to go along with the 35098525 "third line grinder\PK specialists" in the system, ie: Ryan Flynn, Ryan Thang, Ben Ryan, Jani Lajunen, and yes, even Nick Spaling and Matt Halischuk. Unless something tremendously bad happened at OSU (which from all reports, it didn't), I don't see the harm in giving it a shot.
Obviously I didn't see him this year, but I saw him off and on when he was with the Suckeyes, and he was horrible. Dime a dozen guy....I'm taking a pass. If we can't do better than that there's something wrong.

Our system is filled with guys who were "okay" college players. The difference in TS is that he actually went somewhere else and showed signs of offensive life.
Again, what's the justification in a guy like Ryan Flynn over Stefishen? Oh, right, "he's a real blue collar kinda guy."

I was at tonight's Admirals game against Peoria. This is what I saw in the 4-3 loss. Too many newbies in one game for my taste.
Foss and Conacher didn’t know where to be the whole game. Watson and Cahill were everywhere, but they both need to use their size. Maybe they were timid after the Ford hit and game misconduct in the first 5 minutes of the game. Ford knocked Dave Scatchard out with a check in a crowd in the high slot.
Atte Engren had happy feet. He acted like that cobra from the Bronx Zoo was in his net. He was out of position several times due to his roaming. That may work in the bigger European rinks, but it doesn't over here. If he doesn't control that behavior, he will be playing in Cincinnati next season with Chet Pickard.
Santorelli played like an idiot and cost Milwaukee two goals. He needs to go.
Dave Leaderer looked good playing D-man. He was steady in his first game, especially since he just arrived after playing in Trenton last night. He, Josi, Palin and Laakso played a lot with Ford out of the game.
What's the story on Cahill? I know he's a college free agent, but is he someone that the Preds have interest in possibly signing, or strictly a guy the Ads are looking at?
