I just can't believe this teams luck. Really unfortunate turn of events.

Keep in mind, salary circumvention isn't clearly defined in the CBA, so it's essentially how it is perceived by the league, and then decided specifically by an arbitrator.
Canucks have been prevented by the salary cap rules from accruing any spare salary space to use later in the year on deadline deals. So really, as much as using the LTIR has helped us it has hurt us compared to healthy teams.

for example (using a rough 4-1 ratio): if you carried a $57m roster on a $60m salary cap, you could ice a $69m in players on the roster after the trade deadline. Nashville could have iced a team with $80m+ worth of players after the deadline if they wanted.

Lee Sweatt could have been sent down but the rules prevented it, that's not the Canucks fault. Hording Lee Sweatt hardly seems overpowered compared to being able to add millions more in salary at the deadline.

This is actually getting quite sad... As if this team can't stay healthy.

Just spit balling here but does anyone else think that genetics may play a role in concussions and PCS? Just like how players like Salo are more injury prone are some players more susceptible to serious concussions?

Or do you think it's just that the study of concussions is so young that we haven' fully learned how to diagnose them? I mean you look at the Pacioretty hit and I would say that was worse than the Savard or Perron (not sure of those players concussion history though) hit yet he's seemingly okay after a few days without PCS.

We don't know much about concussions. Depends on area of the brain and what specific structure gets injured, what that area controls on the body,....

Oh no, not the 1-2 concussion situation.

Have to stay hopeful - the D was built deep for a reason - onwards and upwards in the playoffs.

Frankly, I'd be shocked if we see Hamhuis again this year. With all PCS worry out there.......it's the worst time.

I think that's fairly pre-mature to say. The hit on him by Getzlaf looked 10 times worse and he only missed 5 games.

Let's hope it's minor and hammer is back for the playoffs.

He's been an absolute stud back there this year.

I hope you're right. But considering all the concussion lately, the long term effects from some of them, and the fact that he has already openly questioned retiring.....I'd think he takes this extra serious and maybe shuts it down for the year.

You either experience symptoms or you don't. If Hammer goes a week or so without any symptoms even with increased heart rate, why wouldn't he come back?

Only thing I see you post in this thread is overreactions to injuries before anybody even knows whats going on

You're implying he'll just keep coming back until he can't come back anymore. He sort of indicated differently the last time he went down.

Don't get me wrong, I want him to come back as much as anyone.

Such as when? When I suspected Malhotra's injury was very serious given the body language of the Canucks? Then?

Yeah......I was WAY off base there.

It does matter. I made my prediction based on what the players were saying, how they were acting..........the general mood about the team.

Based on what Hamhuis said when he got a concussion just a few months ago, combined with the general attitude toward concussion in the league.....I think there is some merit to my concern.

And what did he say? That he would consider retirement if he was having Marc Savard like symptoms that wouldnt go away? im sure 90 percent of the league would

If Hamhuis feels fine and passes all the tests and what not he will be back as soon as he can, what does the general attitude have to do with anything

keep on thinking hes gone for the season before we even hear any updates or him talking to the media

So, are we guessing at second impact syndrome perhaps? Seems logical given how innocuous todays impact seemed, at least in terms of the head.

If I'm guessing, Hamhuis will probably shut it down for the year and reevaluate come September. I don't think he'll want to mess around with this one.

Nope. He never mentioned Savard.

Here ya go:

Hamhuis has said he would consider retirement if he felt he was risking his quality of life after hockey.

"If there is more [concussions] to come, I think you have to take a look at what is important," Hamhuis, the father of two, said after suffering a concussion last month. "If I ever felt like it's like putting myself at risk long term, then I'll have to step back and think about things."
