Hamhuis has said he would consider retirement if he felt he was risking his quality of life after hockey.

So basically if he was having Sarvard like symptoms..

Read the quote. He does not talk about Savard. He states that if he has more concussions he may have to step back and contemplate his future in hockey.

What I am saying is that this may give him pause. He may want to shut it down long term just to make sure he is completely recovered.

Savard is a good example of what can happen if a player tried to force a comeback. Based on what I am hearing, Savard is in horrible, horrible shape.

I think you are severly underestimating the seriousness of a concussion, especially one that happens so close to another.

No one knows when Hamhuis will be back. Even if the team determined that he could play a week from now it would be better to wait until the playoffs start.

I am almost hoping the the Twins and Kesler gets some mysterious groin pulls in the next little while. Why risk them in what are essentially meaningless games?

i agree with this

too much extreme speculation right now...on the one hand, people are suggesting it's his 4th career concussion and 2nd in 5 months so he'll be out long term similar to what has happened to david perron or matthew lombardi or even marc savard...others suggest av only used the words "concussion protocol" and he might not even have a concussion at all

it's reasonable to assume, based on the replay, how long he was down after the incident, and hamhuis' concussion history, that hamhuis was concussed on the play and that he will be out for the rest of the regular season at a bare minimum

however, based on my gut feeling, which is all anybody has at this point, i don't think we'll see hamhuis back on the canucks this year

Take it with a grain of salt, but FYI anyway:

@Teddier There is a rumor going around that Hamhuis is not as bad as after Getzlaf hit. Can't confirm or deny but source is pretty reliable

Tweet from Peter Tessier

Hamhuis will be back right before the playoffs and I think his injury is exaggerated by AV so he can allow Hamhuis to rest up. Canucks have 50 wins and are three wins away from winning the presidents trophy, its time to rest the significant players.

hockeybuzz might be the most unreliable hockey rumour site on the internets

you'd need a whole ocean of salt to swallow any rumour from eklund and co.

Good thing I didn't get it from Hockeybuzz then.

I know Tessier blogs for them, but this was off of his twitter, as opposed to off the hockeybuzz site.

With a healthy D I think this group is almost unbeatable in a 7 game series.

That quote is from a larger article originally written by Matt Sekeres and in the article they are talking about how scary concussions are and I believe Marc Savard was mentioned by name. In any case the quote in question was taken out of context, and reading any more into it is just needless panic.

Hoff Salo
Ballard Bieksa
Rome Tanev

(out: Edler, Hammy, Alberts)

or some combo of the above is not ideal but it is not so bad we have no hope. Just hope the sick guys get back (even just one of Hamhuis or Edler would be a huge plus-both left side guys)

If Alberts and Edler come back, it's still one heck of a defense. Not having Hamhuis sucks, but we'll manage. Malhotra is arguably a bigger loss.

Oh Geeze, here we go. Where/When did you get this magical medical degree that lets you diagnose people based on no facts? So good you even have a timetable for return.

nice.

just speculating... geez louise. his 4th concussion of his career. i don't think the nucks mangement team wants to risk anything. sit him out the final 7 games, and go from there. also hockey window said on canuckscentral that it isnt as bad as it looks.like his last one where he was sidelined for 5 games.

Though, some of those stories did turn out to have legs......at least the one did where the guy talked about a ruptured globe (based on what that Opthamalogist here was saying).

By and large though, I agree. I have no time for the "my mom knows a guy that has inside info," or "I was in the bar and the Canuck players just started offering up inside information to me for no apparent reason!"
