Ya 1040 also said that Ian MacIntyre tweeted that Malhotra was skating by himself today in full-cage. GO MANNY!

Don't read anything into it we were told. Wouldn't surprise me if this was a one time thing just to see where he's at.

I say if he doesn't trip over the blueline he's good to go.

If he sees three pucks just get to the one in the middle.

I know they said not to read into it, but isn't it a little strange that he was wearing a cage if he was skating by himself or is there some medical issue that would require him to wear a cage just to skate?

probably getting accustomed to the full cage for when he starts skating with teammates, and hopefully playing in games.

for those keeping score, I'll note that about a month ago I passed on that he could be back towards the end of the 3rd round if things progressed well. And voila!

Yes Manny Malhotra skated today, but it was in a track suit and a cage. There is no expectation that he will play again this season.

True. We should get him in equipment and a cage and have him do light skates daily, just to **** with our next opponent.

I am sure that will be the Canucks official line until/if he plays again. But saying that the are not expecting him to play is not the same as he will not play.

Great idea
It would be fantastic to have Manny back but I'm not going to get too excited.

Indeed.

In addition, him wearing a cage shows that they foresee the possibility of him taking contact this spring. By the time the fall rolls around, he wouldn't need one anymore (and wouldn't be allowed to wear it).

Key word there is 'expectation', that's not to say he won't surprise anyone and deem himself good to go.

Any guy who's been injured and had to sit on the sidelines watching his team play knows you're just aching to get back into the lineup. He's doing what anyone would and checking to see if he feels good enough to go. Personally wouldn't read too much into it, but still hard not to be optimistic.

It's been exactly 6 weeks since his surgery and he 'surprisingly' skates on his own with a full cage.

The original prognosis was 6-8 weeks. May 25 will be officially 8 weeks, and game #6 will be played on the 26th.

Any chance that Malhotra can get into game shape in 2 weeks? Perhaps skate on his own for 1 week with light off-ice workouts. Then skate with the team with no contact for 2 practices and then 1-2 practices with contact with the team.

Sort of like the concussion protocol.

He's out indefinitely, not week to week or day to day. INDEFINITELY. Please understand, I'd love to get him back in the lineup but this is Willie Mitchell all over again. Let's not go over that episode again.

I'm pretty sure it was that they wouldn't know the extent of the damange until 6-8 weeks, not that he'd be good to go in 6-8 weeks.
