Well this whole thing sucks for sure. However, on the bright side you can point at the fact that Vancouver could be in the rare situation of having Salo, Edler and Bieksa simultanously (!) in the lineup before the playoffs are over, which would still give them a better roster than they've had the last few weeks.
Look at the stats from last post season of some of our main point getters, I think this shows what the problem was.. It wasn't our 3rd line.
Kesler with 1 goal in 12 games
Raymond with 4 points in 12 games
Burrows with 6 points in 12 games
Demitra with 6 points in 11 games
Grabner with 1 point in 9 games
Our secondary scoring dried up to the extent that Wellwood was our best secondary scorer when Samuelsson was up with the twins (as he was for much of last playoffs).
Of our current guys, Kesler and burrows seriously underperformed (considering the weight put on them) and raymond somewhat, and our defensemen just kept getting injured. Hopefully sammuelsson goes beast-mode during the playoffs, but the other players need to step it up regardless.
How many of them were really injured though ? Kesler and burrows should be good to go and raymond may simply not be a guy who has a playoff-gear
I thought his injury was 4-6 weeks, it's been well beyond that.
I know it doesn't mean much, but doesn't his LTIR status create some roster shuffling when he finally becomes healthy? Or is his cap hit so small, when healthy, the Canucks don't need to move any bodies?

My guess is that Sweatt's been healthy for a while but was told to shut it down for the year because the Canucks needed his LTIR exemption to stay compliant. Normally they'd just send him down and then not worry about his cap hit but because he was injured past the trade deadline, he couldn't be sent to the AHL this season (you can't send an injured player down and you can't send anyone down after the deadline unless they were called up post deadline). So the Canucks' only option (prior to Malhotra's injury at least), was to keep him on LTIR all year because they needed the space to acquire Lapierre and Higgins.
Is there any merit to this item from the TSN chat thing?

...a report out of Vancouver has stated Manny has lost his battle to save his eye,Let's hope for the best for Manny, that was a tough one. Report this comment!
As long as the powerplay continues to be fantastic the Malholtra loss is less than it would be say.. Last year... If need be in A series we still have a selke calibre centre in kesler to go up against top players.
The powerplay will determine If this team sinks or swims.
also the secondary scoring will also play a factor in a series too. kesler/burrows/raymond will be the guys to be counted upon to score. sedins are their usual self. the bottom 6 guys will need to chip in as well.

I have not seen anything like that - though the article by Ian McIntyre today alluded to some internet rumours about Malhotra being about to lose the eye outright, while others stating that he was completely blind in the eye. It was qualified with the comment that the Canucks organization is denying this adamantly.
FWIW, a friend was on the same flight as Manny today. Headed to Newark (presumably New Jersey). Said he looked good, aside from a plastic eye patch of course.
Any idea why he'd be on a commercial flight to Newark?

If it's true my best guess would be an eye specialist in New York, Newark is one of the 3 major NYC airports.

I thought after eye surgery, it's advised that you don't fly, because of the altitude's pressure?
Anyways, my friends sister lost her eye to a pellet gun at the age of 13, had to get a glass eye. She was in good spirits not long after as well. Although, being 13 and not having your career depend on vision, is a quite different. From my viewpoint it was much more traumatic for the family than the victim. Still has to be very hard for any middle-school girl to lose an eye, strong girl.

I wonder if he's been practicing with the team at least. Would suck to have him just sit there and twiddle his thumbs.
