Simon Gagne to Pittsburgh (Offseason)

What would Gagne's contract look like if the Penguins were to target him in free agency?

As a Flyers fan, I would hate this. But it makes some sense from gagnes POV. he can play with crosby or Malkin, and watch his stats shoot up.

I could see a 2 year deal from 2-3M per, but thats a total guess. But if he can stay healthy, he would be great next to crosby. Both are very good defensively and Gagne would look great next to him.

Would probably work well with Crosby or Malkin. I see him as signing at 2.5 for one year, and depending on his season, may or may not resign. I would like this from the POV of Pittsburgh fan.

If he could play right wing then I would love him to sign here. We are pretty set on left wing with Kunitz and Neal both good top 6 wingers

Gee Willicker (sp? )

The Pens would be pretty dangerous to fill up there top 6 wingers with veteran wingers.

They already have Neal, and Gagne would be great to play with either malkin or crosby.

Cap goes up 3M, Gagne signs a 1 year deal. Season after cap goes up 3M and Pens have about 2M to give Neal in his next contract (4M for 6 years), then 6M for a winger for Crosby. In the meantime Gagne plays with Malkin.

as good as gagne would look in our top six, i highly doubt shero would spend that much cash on a injury threat like gagne...we'll settle for top 9 talent instead i think this offseason...

Doubt Shero signs him. Kunitz and Neal are good wingers, and maybe re-sign Kovalev for cheaper. They don't have a ton of cap space this offseason if I'm correct either?

Depends how much the cap goes up. They could probably squeeze him in for somewhere between 2-3 million if it goes up a couple million.

Neal and Kunitz are very good LW's though. Not sure they need Gagne unless they think one of Neal, Kunitz or Gagne can play RW. None of them have done that much as far as I know though.

No thanks for Kovalev staying here. I wanted him a little bit at the trade deadline but no way would i want him for a full season. Perhaps Shero can take a try on a RFA.

Alotta things can happen this summer depending on playoff performances and what we'll do with cooke. As much as I love the guy, I'd love it more if his departure as well as that of Dupuis/Talbot allowed for us to run this lineup.....

Cooke should stay here. You don't build a tough team by fan reactions or teams would all be soft as hell and people wondering why nobody hits. Reason why they are GM's and we are just fans. But Cooke should be on a short leash next season, VERY short. But for Mario to send a message he should have his own suspension of Cooke. All of the regular season+all of the playoffs, even if the NHL is not suspending him for rounds 2,3 and 4.

You'd sit him for the playoffs? If that happens they better cut ties. No way is that logical to sit a guy that is proven to be effective in big games just to make a point and then bring him back next season.

I think getting anyone is a good possiblity and I could see Gagne in Pittsburgh. Players around the league have had to notice the Penguins this year. Missing a decent part of the line-up and still having success, who wouldn't want to play for them if giving the opportunity? I think Kovy would want to stay if asked, and I could see Gagne taking a decent deal to come to Pittsburgh.

Kunitz - Crosby - Gagne
Neal - Malkin - Kovalev
Cooke - Staal - Kennedy
Adams - Letestu - Jeffrey

??

Although having Letestu and/or Jeffrey on the 4th line kinda sucks, it's hard to find room for them anywhere if our lineup had players like Gagne and Kovalev in it.

So can Gagne play RW or not? Any Flyers or Lightning fans care to shed light on the subject?

No, that would be John LeClair signing with the Penguins.

That still makes me violently ill thinking about it. I've never hated a Penguin so.

Yeah i'd sit him. He needs to learn, not cost us games. He'd cost us games in the playoffs i bet. Sometimes a player needs to learn, and if he whines about it and wants to leave then whatever, the whole team would ***** at him while he would ride the pressbox the rest of his time here. The team likes him, remember the first time he got suspended this season and when he came back the team was all defending him on the ice? he's really well liked here but sometimes you need to learn because the players do not appreciate losing because of Cooke. Anyway this aint a Cooke thread so that is all i will say about it.

After I got done crying I would expect to see something like 3/12M. Gagne's inability to stay in the lineup might hurt his value somewhat but he will still get a good deal. We are talking about a complete player here. When he's got his wheels, he's a 30-goal guy who skates in the plus like clockwork. Put him on Sid's wing and those qualities ramp up even further. Last year in the Finals he was playing at like 50% and he's seldom been close to 100% healthy this year.

Do they have any that are former 40-goal scorers? I thought not. And unlike say Staal, they wouldn't be thrusting him into a defensive-minded role, he'd be on the top line and immediately become their best winger if close to healthy.

He's seldom if ever played it (I do not remember him playing RW for Philly for any significant amount of time, he has not in TB this year). That said, he is comfortable making plays on his backhand and he's got a quick release on his shot, the move to his off wing might bode well for his goal scoring and I don't see a guy like him struggling with the transition, the dude is a consummate pro.
