CAPITALS (42-21-10) at FLYERS (44-19-8)
TV -- TSN2 (HD), VERSUS (HD)
Last 10 -- Washington 9-1-0; Philadelphia 4-4-2
Season series -- This is the fourth and final meeting between the top two teams in the Eastern Conference standings. The first three games all have been one-goal affairs, with two decided in overtime and one in a shootout. The Capitals won the first meeting, Nov. 7 in Washington, on Mike Green's overtime goal. The Flyers won the rematch in Washington Nov. 20 on Danny Briere's shootout-deciding goal. On Jan. 18, Andrej Meszaros' overtime goal was the difference.
Big story -- Regardless of the outcome the Flyers will remain atop the conference standings, but the Caps can pull even in points with a regulation victory. They're 10-1-0 in their last 11, while the Flyers are unbeaten in regulation in their last six (4-0-2).
No Green, No Arnott, No Ovechkin, and not much overt desire by management to win this one suggests that they get their wish in the front office, but it'll be... it'll be... well, it'll be something.
Im not superstitious or anything, but unless this guys handle used to be "442", I want to see a new GDT posted by morning!
No seriously!!
Ha. Tis not I. I pushed my luck with my latest GDT .... i believe the consensus is to keep it for playoffs. That said, you don't get 2 points in a playoff game .... I'm going to have to think of something else.
My gut is going full retard, chicken little, Glenn Beck mode right now. However, last year we saw how well the Caps can play without Ovechkin. So I guess I can calm down a little. I at least want a point. We've gotten points in every game so far.
I tried to find a tank in the shop pic but found this one instead. I am guessing that car is Hal Gill. And I am still pissed they didnt count that goal, it would be one of my favs of his all time. What if he hits Gill at the blue line and he slides into the goal, is it still waved off. Bah.
reminder somethin' somethin' i found on japers this morning. michal neuvirth is 14-0 in the playoffs in north american. ohl championship. oshawa lost after neuvirth was injured the next season. then back to back ahl championships.
In re the game: I still think that this is a very winnable game for the Caps. While I respect this iteration of the Flyers, I don't fear them at all tbh. Maybe I'm deluding myself, but I welcome a matchup with these guys once the playoffs start (for a number of reasons; one, it'll likely mean that we are in the ECF, and two I think they can be had.)
