Really? I mean.. it was the freaking superbowl. You had a perfect season before. There are worst defeats than that? Except last-year's-event-that-won't-be-mentionned.

Well, the 1986 World Series was a pretty big letdown too, to be quite honest -- but 2004 sure made up for everything in a big way!

Last year's playoffs ended badly for sure. But to me the 1979 "Too Many Men On The Ice" debacle was worse, because that one most likely cost us a Stanley Cup IMHO. Last year's collapse, in all likelihood, didn't.

Good point.

You lost the cup, and we gained an obnoxious sport commentator out of the deal. Everybody lost on that day.

I've already made the mistake of dating a Leafs fan. A Habs fan would be a gazillion times worse
Thankfully I have a Bruins fan now.

'86 Sox
'85 Celtics (my dad still has fits over it)
'87 Celtics (after all the crap they went though that year, this hurt)
Pats-Giants
Pats-Jets
Last year's B's
B's vs Carolina
B's vs Habs
Last year's Celtics game 7.

Thats my list. Yes I was alive for the sox and c's

For one and only one reason; you could share skinny jeans, hair gel & mousse, skimpy underwear, cologne, and depilatory products.

Oh it completely sucked. Absolutely. But it's not like I had never seen them win a Superbowl before.

The Red Sox in '03 was worse, along with the Bruins playoff losses in '04, '09, and '10. That's just me though.

Here I was thinking of moving to Boston. You seem to have the worst luck of America when it comes to professional sports, no?

Nope. As a city, we're lucky to be competitive as often as we are, and it makes it so much better when one of the teams DOES win.

Last year's celtics are really missing very badly from this list. Unless of course you didn't really care that much haha....but that one really really hurt. Complete breakdown on the defensive rebounds after being up 13 in the third and not scoring the first half of the 4th in a game 7...against the lakers.

Cleveland might have something to say about that.

I don't think Boston can come close to qualifying anyway with the Sox in '04 and '07, the Pats 3 SB's, and the Celtics winning in '08.

Oh, I don't know. Watching Orr reinvent the game of hockey was certainly a treat, as was watching the Bird-era Celtics. We had 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. And as I mentioned, there was 2004, which couldn't have played out any better if they had scripted it. We've had our share of hearbreak as well, to be sure. Still, I think of fans in cities like San Diego or Seatlle, who have never experienced the thrill of a championship parade, and all in all I think we've had it pretty good here.

Define luck. To lose in the finals or the playoffs, you have to get there. Wouldn't cities with teams that NEVER make the playoffs be worse off? Every Cleveland team, Detroit Lions, The Laffs.

Or how about cities that actually lose their teams....like... the Expos...

I have erased it from my memory. Give me a year or 2 and I will acknowledge. Took me til now to speak of the Superbowl loss. But I agree last year was AWFUL. Heartbreaking.
