Ownership changed hands a good while ago. DirecTV bought it in May 2009 from Liberty Media, which acquired it in a stock swap with News Corporation in 2006 (read: Fox). That's why it's been known as FSN instead of Fox Sports since then.
I thought this was just a Pittsburgh quirk...I get one of the other networks being re-branded (Northwest, which is Seattle/Portland).
Steigerwald is right there with that Boston ****** as the worst in the league. I don't mind Errey, but the fact Steigerwald is still employed is a disgrace...but as I said, I doubt anything changes here as the ownership has been the same for two years now, they're just finally re-branding it.
The further anything gets from Fox the happier I get.
I swear, the more political the comments get on a hockey board, the more it almost makes me wish they'd replace sports announcers with Dick Cheney and Glenn Beck just to see how much people's heads would explode.
The fact is, there are a number of play-by-play guys around the league and Steigerwald is not one, while Lange is.
In ANY setting or situation in life, the voice of a leader or key representative is important for the group. Steigerwald has a poor voice, zero charm, and no brain for communicating things effectively or creatively.
OH YAH? Well I bet you can't guess where the inspiration for casting this guy as Kevin came from!
(Don't say Steigy never contributed to your life!)
Steiggy and Errey need to be broadcasting the special olympics, not NHL hockey.
Did anyone catch Errey's comments where he speculated that Vokoun needed to drop a deuce at the end of the 3rd period?
Thats why I like Errey though, you have to love him, in the same way you like the village idiot. At least he is entertaining, dumb, but entertaining.
Steiggy has no excuse, he is just a tool.
I still stand by that I would like to see a Lange and Errey combo. Just so I can sit there and imagine Lange with a "WTF are you on about?" face while staring at Errey to a few seconds of silence after one of his random comments.
Also, IMO, Errey should have the screen pen in his hand during every intermission. The "3 ass = 1 goal" mishap should be reason enough for that.
Errey is entertaining? No, he isn't. I don't want someone with the mental capacity of a special needs 8 year old attempting to commentate on a hockey game. I don't care how many years he played in the league, you could easily find someone else who has never set foot on an ice rink yet still has more hockey knowledge to replace him with. I want class, integrity, and knowledge from my announcers not pathetic juvenility and talking without thinking. They both need fired, the sooner the better.
they're keeping all of the old personnel and stuff, right? including the guy who does the voice-over for commercials for upcoming games? ya know, the ones that are like "____ comes into town to face the pens in an atlantic division battle, sunday on FSN Pittsburgh(or whatever)!" that guy has the coolest voice and i love them commercials.
cuz i am afraid of change. i realize that Steigy and Bab are apparently terrible PbP guys, but i've grown accustomed to them and i would miss them
i'm actually hoping this is a REALLY LAME April Fool's joke
I signed up here just to say that I heard a new voice doing the upcoming Pirate game announcement...never heard him before.
Now would be a good time to push again for Mike Lange to come back. TV-Radio simulcast would be sweet, but probably not likely.
Interesting about the commercial guy being changed. I've heard the old one a bunch, but I usually mute the commercials or go grab more food or drinks while they're on so I haven't heard the new one yet. I'll listen next game. I didn't mind the old commercial guy though. He was probably one of the least irritating parts of the broadcast.
I've heard two different commercials, I think both during the Panthers game.
One he reference "an ice cold pop"...can't remember the second. He falls just short of saying n'at
Also, ROOT related...not sure what I think of Lacee Collins. Had only caught her in studio a few times, but she was the sideline reporter for the Buccos game.s
No better/worse than Potash or Trenni Kusnirek I guess, but that's not really something to put on a resume.
They had her on a few times during Penguins games and I'm still undecided on her. I wanted to say thumbs down at first, but I think it might be her learning a new role with a different team, so I'm not giving her a complete thumbs down yet.
