I really had no idea it was a season ending injury when I heard that he got hurt in the preseason....wow I hope this isn't the end of striet, I think he wld have made a huge difference this year but if he comes back next year like the streit we all know it cld have been a blessing in disguise.
Its forced guys like hamonic, macdonald to play a lot of minutes. They have played great and we will have a much better idea of what we have next year at defense either way but if streit comes back they will be much improved with some much needed experience
Not really surprised but still sucks would have been nice to have him get some action in. The article says he had planned on playing in the world championships but now it doesn't seem like he'll be able to do that either.
The inference can be drawn that this injury was so serious that even this long a recovery does not assure that the joint is stable and strong enough for game contact........or it can infer that it may never be stable enough to assure that it will operate as a healthy joint, or not be compromised to the extent that it is subject to reinjury from game contact.
I hate incomplete stories like this. Unfortunately, Snow is very stingy with releasing full disclosure to the fanbase.
I wouldnt read too much into this. To me, this is just a smart move. Why risk it if he is not 100 percent. No one ever said he was coming back, just that he hopes to.
Me thinks if we were in a playoff push/race he would be coming back very shortly.

There is a big difference in him not getting medical clearance and whether he should be cautious about coming back. The latter makes it a choice of judgement.

Completely understood and I respect your point. However, if it is not a head injury i truly believe the player would give it a go if he felt he could and it was important. He is skating, and before this all reports he felt 100 percent. I would think he should be back next year near or at where he left off.
Anyone out there with the knowledge please confirm or correct me, but aren't injuries like this susceptible to repeat occurences? In a sport like this, that would be cause for concern.
Not trying to be an alarmist, just curious about the nature of these type of shoulder injuries.
I would have been more confident if he was medically cleared but the Islanders chose to sit him out anyway. The fact that he still hasn't recovered enough from his injury to allow for physical contact should give one pause for concern.
