Oh I don't know....

From tsn.ca

"Sunday's gold medal Men's Hockey game has become the most-watched television broadcast ever in Canadian history, with an average audience of 16.6 million viewers.

Nearly half of the Canadian population watched the entire game on average, while 80 percent of Canadians watched some part of the game (26.5 million). The game aired live on nine television networks in eight languages via Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium."

You seem to be in the very, very small minority with that view.

This year team Canada will likey be a bit stronger as last year not may Olympians accepted an invitation as they already had a long full season.

Most young players with any hopes of playing with Team Canada in any other int'l events don't usually turn down an invite, unless they have legit reasons.

Cam Ward

Steve Mason

Established players usually avoid the WCs. That's why I doubt you'll see guys like Phaneuf or Brodeur there.
Anderson is american

The top 8 countries by IIHF ranking at the start of the Olympic season are guaranteed slots at the Olympics.

However, how the IIHF determines that ranking is mostly through the WCs. Canada may be ranked #2 now but, if Canada was relegated this year and did not earn its place back in the elite group by 2014, Canada will have to go through the qualification tournament.

Craig is American, Reimer's competition would be Brodeur if he wants to play, Ward if Carolina doesnt make it (and it doesnt look like he will) and Steve Mason.

With Nonis being the GM of the team I am willing to gamble that Reimer will at very least be the back up

As I already mentioned in your prospects thread, this is very far from confirmed and his chances of making the final roster could get pretty slim when we have some of the NHL D-men comming in if they donīt make the play-offs/are out after 1st round. But his chances are hard to judge until we see what he shows in the two games against Austria this weekend.....

He was too young to remember them?
I moved to Winnipeg when I was 12 and that was the year after the Jets left. Someone who is 4 years younger than I probably didn't know much if anything about them.

Also, he grew up in a super small town/farming community well otuside the city limits.

So he wouldn't really have had the same level of fanaticism in the family as a Winnipegger might've imparted on their kids.

Most likely he was Leafs fan.

Even with the horrible year he had? They will probably pick goalies from their own Swedish Elite League ahead of Gus. Sorry, the guy does not deserve a spot on their team this year.

And what does Charlie Sheen have to do with Team Canada?

Reimer playing for Canada

I was just looking at the standings today and thinking Reimer does have a legit shot to play for Canada at the worlds not only because of his play but based on the teams out the playoffs there is not much Canadian content

East

CAR - Ward (could be too fatigued to go but could be the starter) they may also make the playoffs
ATL - Mason - has team Canada experience
NJ - Brodeur (can't see him going playing the vet trump card)
FLA - No Canadian content
OTT - Mcelhinney - don't think he is even on the radar
NYI - no Canadian content

West

CGY - no Canadian content
COL - Brian Elliot - don't think he will be asked
DAL - Raycroft - might be asked
STL - no Canadian content
EDM - nothing worthwhile
MIN - Theodore could be a possiblity
CBJ - Mason and Garon

From what I see I don't see any better goalie right now than Brodeur and Ward. I think Reimer has a legit shot to make the squad based on his play.

Hockey Canada will definitely consider the kid. There always looking to play the young guys in the WHC. I would hope Reimer is given a spot it would do wonders for his confidence

Canada- Phaneuf, Schenn, Macarthur (outside chance), Reimer
USA- Kessel, Komisarek (confirmed)
Russia- Kulemin
Germany- Holzer, Mueller
Slovakia- Mikus (confirmed, already joined team)
Belarus- Grabovski
Sweden- Gunnarsson, Gustavsson, Sjostrom (outside chance)
Finland- Rynnas (slim chance)

Burke said that he'll push Leafs/Marlies players to play at the WC, so I'm looking forward to seeing the large group of them representing their countries. It will be a great experience for them and will be good for the development of some of the Marlies. We could be the most represented NHL team (8 countries) if all these guys make it.

Both Mason's, Elliot, Reimer and Ward seem like the 5 choices to choose from. I wouldn't be surprised if Ward went.

Carolina faces Atlanta tomorrow at Atlanta, and Tampa at home on Saturday. They are 2 points back of Rangers with a game in hand.

Rangers face New Jersey at home on Saturday (result will be out by 3 PM).

Moral of story: Don't count in Ward yet, there is a good chance they make the playoffs. Also, if both are tied for points at end of season, they are already tied for Regular+OT wins. Meaning if Canes win tomorrow in regulation/OT, they will be ahead. Heck, even if they win in Shootout, Canes are 2-0-2 against Rangers in season series.

I see a reasonable chance of Reimer starting in net for Canada. Do it Nonis, for the kid!

McElhinney and Elliot are scrubs.

Giguere is hurt, Brodeur would pass on that invite.

Theodore, Raycroft and Garon are viable options, but will probably only be asked if others decline.

The Masons and Ward are Reimer's most obvious competition, I don't think you could go wrong with a Ward/Reimer/S.Mason three-some.

Nonis is a Co GM of Canada right? Wonder if he'll push to get Schenn and or Dion there.

Then guys like:

Kessel - USA
Kulemin - Russia
Grabovski - Belarus?

Any more?
I'd consider Grabovski doubtful for Belarus given that he has a four month old daughter at home.
