But the new guys have proven to be the difference, and it's not due to Wilson's coaching in my opinion.
Another mindless post - Wilson coaches the Leafs, Eakins coaches the Marlies. You are the very reason Leafs Nation is an absolute embarrassment.

Criticize people when things aren't going well - that's fine and part-and-parcel of being a sports fan. But don't sell someone short when they deserve the credit.

Eakins has a done a great job with the Marlies, but I bet if you ask him he would say the players have been the catalyst to their own success not his coaching.

He has. His whole career he's done a good job taking rebuilding teams to contender status. He's just never taken a contender all the way.

lol okay and I am sure jfj deserves all the credit as well, since he did draft all these young guys on our roster besides Kadri and Schenn.

it's the GM's job to take a rebuilding team to contender status. then it's up to the coach...

all Wilson has proven over his coaching career is that he is only as good as his team...while other coaches can get more out of their players.

just my take. feel free to disagree.

Don't remember him taking Washington to the finals? That wasn't a great team.

Bondra
Oats
Juneau
Tikanen
Brunnette/Bellows
Zednik

Housley
Gonchar
Johansson

Kolzig

not a great lineup...but when your goalie has a gaa of 2.20, & a sv% of .920, you're bound to have a good season. just look at the Leafs with Reimer.

if Reims played all season Wilson would probably look like a genius, and possibly be a Jack Adams candidate.

by the way, these were Kolzig's #'s in the playoffs that year.

GAA = 1.95
SV% = .941

lets not give rainbow Ronnie too much credit.

I'm well aware of who was on the team and how well Kolzig played, but it was a bad roster, a bubble playoff team, that he got to play well.

I don't like Wilson as a coach, I don't now and I didn't in SJ, but he made that Washington team a lot better than it was on paper.

agree to disagree.

you think Wilson made them better, and i KNOW Kolzig made them better.

you could have the cookie monster behind the bench and still win games when your goalie puts up those types of numbers.

plus, look at the numbers his players had...

Oats and Bondra had 70+ point seasons...and then the next best had 35 points!

all Kolzig my friend.

No it's not. It's a coaches job to help players develop into quality players. A coach puts a player in positions to learn new skills, improve current skills, get experience, etc etc. The whole organization, from the coaches, trainers, therapists, GM and assistants, scouts etc all play vital roles in helping a team grow and develop.

Kolzig was also helped by a strong system a team commitment to defense.

I'm betting you don't remember much of that playoffs. It was a Cinderella run where Kolzig was great, but they still had timely scoring and everything seemed to be clicking. Olaf was around for years, but that was the only year his team every won a playoff series. There's no doubt that team played over their head that season.

C'mon man, it obviously isn't open for discussion. He KNOWS it was all Kolzig. All Kolzig. When teams win it's despite the coach, when teams lose it's because of the coach.

I spent yesterday at Ricoh watching Eakins and his team. You missed the point. I didn't say that Wilson deserves NONE of the credit, what I am saying is that half of this team was coached in the AHL. And I think Eakins deserves as much credit as Ronnie. Maybe you can say Allaire as well.

Ron Wilson is a terrible coach, I never liked him, nor did I sing his praise since we started winning. Every game there's something that Ron does that baffles the mind. Bad pairings, mismatched D/Forward core, lack of timeouts. The guy spends more time looking at the iPad then talking to his troops.
