Smyth's game today and Brown's increased pace of play came at the best time. Hopefully they both continue on with the good work.

I hear you on this. The 3rd today was possibly Smyth's most significant period of the year, shows that he will respond like a pro's pro no matter the difficulty of the situation.

Also the kinds of goals he can score will be most welcome, going forward.

I wish I could see AKAY's face when Lewis got 2nd star . . It was probably similar to this:

lmao lmao lmao.. Man.. All jokes aside, Kopitar's injury has come at the absolute worst timing. I always told myself that Lewis needed to get more minutes, but I didn't mean it in this way. I hope Lewis sees increased time, I saw him play on a line with Smyth and Brown during some of the highlights. Hopefully Parse comes back soon too. Cliche is hurt right now, you can scratch him off, I think Elkins gets the call up and wouldn't it be nice if Loktionov were healthy right now.

In all seriousness, is there any way we can call up Brayden Schenn? What are the rules?

I am with you there. Lewis will be the one shouldering heavy responsibility from here on out. He is our most skilled center now after Stoll. He is a first round pick, has the pedigree, and was drafted as being guaranteed to becoming one of the elite third line centers in the game with the ability to step into the top 6 role. We need his potential, not his ability from here on out. I like Lewis, I never doubted him, I think he can do it.

Ice Time is opportunity. We've got a wide scoring distribution and the 40 minutes plus that are now available w/o Kopi and Williams will provide a gilt edged chance to the players who will step up.

To you from failing hands (and shoulders and ankles...) we throw the torch!

Lets do this Lewis.

The Kings will now pretty much role 3 equal lines, with the 4th line (most likely Clifford-Richardson-Westgarth) getting slightly less, but i imagine Clifford and Richardson will be shifted with other lines so pretty much everyone has around 15 minutes except Westy.

Time for Brown to shine aswell.

I'd give Richie the chance before Lewis, just not that impressed with Trevor.

I'd trade 2 pts for a healthy Kopitar.

Well yea. But in regards to how you feel about "this game" 2 points is most important.

Now going forward, that's a different story.

It sucks having Williams and Kopitar out, but suffered injuries that won't have long term damage. Both will make a full recovery by camp.

The Kings weren't going to win the cup with both of them in lineup anyways. Now other players will get valuable playoff minutes. Moller and Lewis will get important minutes in the playoffs and Dean will have a better idea of where this team will be next season.

Time for Doughty and Johnson to take their game to the next level. Brown needs to continue his strong play.

Poni has a chance to play for a contract next season. If he has a strong playoff, he could get a new deal with an NHL team.

If I were TM, I'd be putting threads like this one up in the Kings dressing room. Seriously, Kopitar is not the team. I'm as sick as everybody else is about him getting a broken ankle, and yes, it seriously hurts our playoff chances, but there are 20 odd legitimate NHLers in that room who can win hockey games. Two of them--Bernier and Quck--can outright steal them. The team will score by committee and grind out wins. Now's the time for the guys to get a big chip on their shoulders. If I'm Brown, Smyth, Greene or any of the other leaders in that room I'm starting to think "Our own fans don't think we can win without Kopitar? We'll show them." Look for a bunch of grinding, 2-1, 3-2 wins down the stretch. I don't know how far we'll go in the playoffs without the star power in a seven game series, but then again, Doughty and Johnson become different people once the playoffs start. This is the one time when the system becomes our friend.

For me, I wasn't able to watch the game, so I was keeping up with it by checking the score on my phone. When I got home I basically did this while looking up highlights on HF:

Williams will be back sometime during Round 1 which typically lasts through the end of April. Kopitar at the end of round 2 (which ends mid-May). It'll be a hell of a boost to the team if they're still in it when either of those guys return. Just have to tread water until then. They've already been doing that without Williams - they just need to keep it up. Get at least 6 more points, secure a playoff spot and then pray for a favorable match-up with either Phoenix or Nashville, who the Kings would clearly have their best chance against.

Lets be realistic though. We're not even including the time it takes for them to get back into game shape once they are cleared to play. The Kings are just going to have to consider how they are going to rally without them. If they come back for the Postseason, great, but there's no point relying on it.

Can we get someone to kneecap Westgarth so we can call up Schenn?

First, Kopitar is much more than scoring and yes we still have an NHL team but w/o Kopi and Williams our already anemic offense becomes that much more challenged.

Secondly, Phoenix scares me as much as any other team in our conference. We have struggled against them and Bryzgalov(SP) the last few years.

I agree that we can do it, but to be honest, I think we'll miss Kopitar's all around defensive play more than his scoring. He has gone into scoring droughts when he just isn't there offensively, but he's ALWAYS there defensively on the PK and just back checking. THAT is going to hurt. I think this is where Lewis is so valuable right now. Some of you don't seem to like him or believe in him, but he can shoulder some of the defensive play that Kopitar brought to the team. Scoring is a different story, but it sure was exciting to see him have chemistry with Smyth last night in the 3rd, both tallying a goal and an assit. Maybe they can help each other.

Wow, Moller with 10 shots in his last 2 games. He had 5 total shots in his 4 games in December.

Now, he needs to start putting goals on the board.
