Just for the record Gilmour is a terrible coach. I have lots of family members with Fronts season tickets and the rumours that come out about that team and their coaching staff makes me think he really doesn't know how to run a hockey team.

Great guy though, used to do carry outs for him 4 years ago when I worked in a grocery store and he'd always tip me like $20 haha

I don't think Clouston is the cause of the problems that this team has/had, but I don't think he is the solution either. I wouldn't fire him unless there was a guy we really liked to replace him.

Obviously with the thread I just made..

Kleinendorst should get a big hard glimpse, he could be the next Blysma, the player's love him and he gets the best out of all of them.. A good young coach for some good young players..

Either way, with the exception of Richardson our whole coaching staff should be fired and reanimated with new faces..

...or he could be the next -insert one of many minor league coaches that couldn't translate to the majors-

Beware the Peter Principle.

If he's doing such a great job developing our prospects in Bingo, don't we need him to continue doing so next year?

This is true, its a high risk, high reward type of hire, who when hiring a coach it always is. The only coach with a 100% Winning factor is Bowman and he has ascended to MT. Olympus in Chicago.

I obviously want a coach who is good with kids and all that other stuff. But he better have big enough nuts to not let our team get taken advantage of. If other teams do something stupid, you match and raise that.

I knew it was only a matter of time before KK's name came up. Blysma and CC both started the season in the AHL before being hired as the NHL coaches. CC was suppose to be our Blysma. KK might be, and yes he probably should be considered.

Another reason to like Dineen, not only was he a Senator but he has a running feud with Lindy Ruff, going back to their playing days.

Refers to him as "Ruff at home, Lindy on the road".

Now that'll kick the Ottawa-Buffalo rivalry up a notch.

Haven't seen a coach fight before. 1 v 1 on the bench could be good.

Yeah, I can just see Murray hiring Ruff. That negotiation will go smooth.

Why has this man not been suggested yet? Recently released from his contract, brings youth and energy, and knows how to win.

Eric Ross is a close second though.

Really hoping Trotz becomes available, if he does he is far and away my number 1 choice. After that, I don't know enough about Dineen etc.

Maybe it's a reflection of the mean age of HFBoards posters that Muller seems to be a favourite in this thread so far.... Interesting.

I think Lindy Ruff is one of the top coaches in the NHL, period. I thought I heard on a recent broadcast that he had not signed with Buffalo and had asked the organization to wait until the summer to deal with that, as he wanted to focus on hockey. Am I right?

I think Ottawa would be an option for him, for sure. It's a Canadian team, and that may have some allure for Ruff, but it is also a team on the rebuild and he might be interested in shaping that. For all his years in Buffalo, he has not really been rewarded for his efforts (i.e. going deep into the playoffs).

He would be my first pick. Muller may well be a good coach, but he is part of the fabric in Montreal and the fact that he has captained the habs and won might be part of the reason why montreal players listen to him. Ottawa players would listen, but he does not have the same cachet as he does in Montreal.

I still think Ottawa is a relatively fragile club. Some of the players who remain from this year are nice guys but they are also part of the history of not performing when they need to. The next coach needs to gain instant credibility, and he needs to be a dominant figure. Coaches like Ruff and say Pat Quinn, for example, have bigger personalities than any of the players. They can handle the media and they can run a bench.

I like Lindy Ruff, but I am open to suggestion on this with the caveat being that the coach needs to be a proven leader on the bench. No more of this tryout business for junior coaches.

To be perfectly honest, Clouston will be a good coach someday. He is learning. Why not bring in Lindy Ruff as GM/Coach, and leave Clouston as an assistant. Not so sure Clouston would oppose that...... (Murray will likely stay on as a special advisor to scouting, IMO)

Just a thought.
